Day 2: Perito Moreno Day Trip

After breakfast at the hotel, take a private transfer from El Calafate to the Bajo de Las Sombras port. On the journey the guides will introduce you to the region, the glacier, and the tour. From the port you will continue your journey by boat for around 20 minutes, cruising in front of the Southern Wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier and crossing the part of the lake known as Brazo Rico.

The trek begins with a talk about the glaciology along the shore, preparing you for the ice hike where you will don your crampons and set off across the ice. You will spend approximately one and a half hours on the glacier, which is plenty of time to take photographs and marvel at the fascinating and infinite shapes of the centuries-old ice. The colours, shapes and sounds are all part of this wonderful experience on one of the most emblematic glaciers in Argentine Patagonia.

The mountain guide will continually give you interesting  snippets of information about the glacier, the southern region of Patagonia and local flora and fauna, etc., and you will get the chance to ask as many questions as you like. At the end of the ice trek, you will stop off at a cosy refuge to eat your lunch. You will also enjoy a one hour guided visit to the walkways in front of the glacier, where you will be presented with the amazing panoramic landscape of the glacier and get to walk along some of the self-guided trails.

Later, you will be dropped back at your hotel in El Calafate.

There is the option to upgrade to the 'Big Ice' trekking tour (costing an additional USD $110 per person) as well as to add on a kayaking excursion (additional USD $45 per person).
