This relationship has helped bring about a culture which can be appreciated today in the small wooden chapels and the fascinating domestic mythology.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span><em><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/images\/1407\/original.png?1291372323\" \/><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Castro, Isla Chilo\u00e9, Chile<\/span><br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The wooden chapels of Chilo\u00e9 are considered as UNESCO world heritage sites for their cultural significance, blending native and Spanish beliefs into the churches. Each chapel has southern-facing front doors to protect them from the rain. The weather in Chilo\u00e9 according to Charles Darwin is, &#8220;in winter the climate is detestable, and in summer it is only a little better. I should think there are few parts of the world, within the temperate regions, where so much <strong>rain<\/strong> falls. The <strong>winds<\/strong> are very boisterous, and the sky almost always clouded: to have a week of fine <strong>weather<\/strong> is something wonderful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/images\/1404\/original.png?1291369805\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>I<\/em><em>glesia San Carlos de Borroneo, Chonchi &#8211; Chilo\u00e9\u00a0\u00a9 Nick Leonard\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many of the buildings and houses on Chilo\u00e9 also take advantage of the wooden architecture, and are often covered with wooden shingles called <em>tejuelas<\/em> cut from the native <strong>Alerce tree<\/strong>, to create roofs that can withstand the frequent rain showers in the region. The dish includes mussels, clams, beef, pork, chicken, sausage, and potatoes topped off with chewy pancakes called <em>milcaos<\/em>. You can order a variation i<\/span><span>n a restaurant where it is cooked in a pot and called <em>pulmay<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/images\/1412\/original.png?1291373136\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Preparing the Curanto<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pu\u00f1ihuil, the only place in the world where Humboldt and Magellan <strong>penguins<\/strong> nest side by side.
