Here she takes you through the various options.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Techado Negro<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0682.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198077\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0682.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0682\" width=\"438\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This slightly tumble down<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0restaurant with its brightly coloured walls prepares wonderful, wholesome, home-cooked food. If you are looking for a taste of home then head here for homemade pasta, fish, <em>milanesas<\/em>\u00a0(a thin slice of meat covered in breadcrumbs and fried) or salads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0043.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198076\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0043.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0043\" width=\"328\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Look out for their excellent value <em>menu del dia<\/em> (menu of the day) with generous portions. For a mouth watering steak try the <em>Bife de Chorizo<\/em>; the trout and local lamb are also good.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong style=\"line-height: 26.6666679382324px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0033_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198088\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0033_1.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0033_1\" width=\"335\" height=\"188\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThe chef really knows how to work local ingredients into delicious treats and the waiter will tempt you with a a wide selection of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/history-patagonian-wine\/\" target=\"_blank\">Argentine wines.<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Cervecer\u00eda Artesanal El Chalt\u00e9n<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0661.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0661.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0661\" width=\"547\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This tiny little beer house is so snug and cosy that you may find it hard to get a seat and could end up sharing a table with others. Come early or persevere,\u00a0either way\u00a0you will be given a choice of delicious pizzas and pasta to accompany your home brew. The rustic wooden d\u00e9cor lends the bar a congenial atmosphere which is ideal for ap<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">r\u00e8s-trek drinks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>La Tapera<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Tapera.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198083\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Tapera.jpg\" alt=\"Tapera\" width=\"468\" height=\"314\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A rustic wooden eatery with seating around a fire pit. The tapas are yummy and the rest of the Argentine fare is hearty. I sat planning my trekking ro<span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">utes with chocolate pouring down my chin. The gregarious waiters make this a great place for a savoury or sweet waffle whilst you wait for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/los-glaciares\/trekking\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Fitzroy <\/a>to appear from behind the clouds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0665.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198082\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/DSC_0665.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0665\" width=\"430\" height=\"287\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nExpect to feel guilty and gluttonous afterwards!<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Panaderia Que Rica<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Empanadas3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198085\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Empanadas3.jpg\" alt=\"Empanadas3\" width=\"301\" height=\"201\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nBefore you head into the hills or onto the bus to Calafate, it is worth stocking your backpack with sandwiches, <em>empanadas<\/em> (savoury pasties), <em>facturas<\/em> (sweet pastries such as croissants) and\u00a0<em>alfajores<\/em> (shortbread and\u00a0caramel sandwich) from this heavenly bakery.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198086\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Facturas.jpg\" alt=\"Facturas\" width=\"430\" height=\"287\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Get there early before stocks sell out.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Self Catering in El Chalten<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Supermercado.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198091\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swoop-patagonia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Supermercado.jpg\" alt=\"Supermercado\" width=\"328\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">If you plan to self cater, unfortunately El Chalten is not very well served. The small supermarkets of <strong>La Tostadora Moderna<\/strong> on Avenida San Martin, <strong>El Gringuito<\/strong> on Cerro Solo or <strong>El Super<\/strong> on Avenida Lago del Desierto have a few offerings but try to shop in Calafate before you jump on the bus. Four years later she went to work in the remote Patagonian region of Aysen where she discovered trekking, the great outdoors...and her future husband. From this base she went on to trek in Torres del Paine and throughout Patagonia, Bolivia and Peru before going to University. When Harriet returned to the Andes she did so with her bicycle and spent two and half years biking and mountaineering throughout the Andes, climbing 8 of the 12 highest Andean peaks completely independently.
