Operator's Itinerary

Day 1: Futaleufu

Passengers arrive to Futaleufu on their own

Accommodation:  Lodging in Futaleufu

Day 2: Futaleufu - La Junta 

Journey time:  3 hours / 146 km gravelled road.   

Free morning in Futaleufu to take some of the excursions offered in town: hikes, horseback rides, floating, rafting.

In the afternoon, drive to the Carretera Austral and continuation to La Junta.

Accommodation:  Lodging at La Junta

Meals: Breakfast   

Day 3: La Junta - Puerto Marin Balmaceda

Journey time:  2 hours / 72 km gravelled road.   

Optional: Half day excursion offered by the hotel: hikes, horse rides, navigation, catarafting

Lunch and drive to Puerto Marin Balmaceda - before reaching the small village one must cross the Palena river on a ferry - the ferry closes at 7 p.m. After that it is not possible to get to the hotel.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4: Puerto Marin Balmaceda - Queulat National Park

Journey time:  2 hours / 146 km gravelled road.   

Optional: Excursions offered by the hotel

We suggest having lunch in Puerto Marin and afterwards departure south toward the Queulat National Park, stopping in the Puyuhuapi Village for a short break.

Afterwards drive 30 km south to the Queulat Fjord, and if weather is good we suggest to stop for a few minutes at the Ventisquero Colgante to admire the view

Day 5: Queulat National Park

Two half day excursions:

  • Hike into the coastal temperate rain forest
  • Navigation on the fjord or sea kayak

Accommodation:  Lodge in Queulat National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 6: Queulat National Park - Coyhaique

Journey time:  3.5 hours / 202 km.

In the morning we suggest to do some of the self-guided trail in the Queulat National Park:

  • Hike on the trail Sendero Morrena (beautiful view of the Hanging Glacier) - 3 hours
  • Hike on the trail Sendero Laguna Ventisquero (possible navigation on the Ventisquero Lagoon) - 1 hour
  • Hike on the trail Sendero Bosque Encantado - 3 hours

Back to the lodge for lunch.

Drive south to Coyhaique.

Day 7: Coyhaique - Puerto Tranquilo

Journey time:  4 hours / 223 km gravelled road. 

Departure toward the south -  the road first crosses the beautiful Castillo Mountain Range to then continue along the Ibanez River. From there the road goes deep into the Andes, crossing beautiful passes. At the Joffre pass it is still possible to see the effects of the eruption of the Hudson Volcano in 1991.

After crossing the Murta River, the road begins to border the General Carrera Lake until arriving to Puerto Tranquilo.

Meals: Breakfast.   

Day 8: Puerto Tranquilo - Puerto Bertrand

Journey time:  4 hours / 68 km gravelled road.   

In the morning visit of the Marble Chapel

Suggested lunch in Tranquilo then drive south to Puerto Bertrand.

Free afternoon to enjoy the surroundings

Accommodation:  Lodging in Puerto Bertrand.

Meals: Breakfast.   

Day 9: Puerto Bertrand - Chile Chico  

Journey time:  3 hours / 139 km gravelled road.  

Early in the morning departure toward the north but this time bordering the south-east shore of the General Carrera Lake.

It is a narrow and winding mountain road with magnificent views of the lake, the andes and the northern ice field.

After crossing Las Llaves pass, the road starts to descend toward Chile Chico always bordering the lake.

Day 10: Chile Chico - Argentina
