Trip Details

Day 1: Trip starts in Puerto Natales. Late morning collection from Puerto Natales airport or hotel to start the day’s drive across the wide open pampas and estancia lands that characterize this area before arriving at the lovely authentic estancia house of Estancia Tercera. Trip briefing and dinner in this very comfortable ranch house. Dinner included (excluding wine/drinks).

Day 2: After breakfast we will be meeting our horses and the friendly local cowboys (baqueanos) who care for them. The first part of our adventure is on horseback so after a safety briefing and introduction to western riding, we will set off on our exciting and unique adventure across some lovely open pampas towards the heart of the Park and the area known as Laguna Amarga. This is a beautiful ride, not least because we get to ride towards the dramatically beautiful mountains of the Paine Massif. We will also pass through the summer grazing grounds of large guanaco herds. Plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the athletic antics of these fascinating and agile animals with their awesome mountain back drop, or to pick some lovely ripe calafate berries from the many bushes that grow around here. Our trail takes us across some rivers and finally along the dirt track which leads into the Laguna Amarga area of the Park. Here we will meet our transfer vehicle for the short drive to camping Las Torres. Hot showers available. Hours in the saddle: 4-5. Transfer time: 45 minutes. B,L,D including wine with dinner (small groups of 2-3 pax, meals in refugio).

Day 3: After our hearty camp breakfast, a challenging hike lay in store for us as we climb up to the base of the towers themselves. Starting with an uphill walk and then following wooded mountain trails this hike is beautiful and the most famous in the area. The final section is a series of ‘hops’ over glacial moraine before finally reaching our lunch destination in the shadow of these fabulous granite peaks.    In the foreground, waterfalls flow off the hanging glaciers into a basin of green water where icebergs float.    You will hear thunderous roars as the ice calves off the glacier to the rocks below.    In the afternoon we will descend to our camping spot in the valley and enjoy a shower - and for those who have the energy to walk to the nearby hotel bar, pisco sours can be enjoyed. Night Camping Las Torres (small groups of 2-3 pax, meals in refugio). Hiking time: 7-9 hours depending on fitness. B,L,D including wine with dinner.

Day 4: After an early breakfast, we will be starting our hike round the shores of Lake Nordenskjold. Our hike takes us around the milky waters of this beautiful lake while we enjoy the views of the granite peaks that form the centre piece of this geographical wonder. Tonight we will be eating and sleeping in the Refugio Los Cuernos which is beautifully situated beside the turquoise waters of the lake with the mountains standing watch behind. Accommodation in bunks in dorm style rooms. Restaurant on site. Hiking time: 4-5 hours. B,L,D.

Day 5: After breakfast in the convivial refugio we will continue our hike along the shores of Lake Nordenskjold towards the French Valley. This is a beautiful trail into a superb natural granite ampitheatre where we will also see the French Glacier. After lunch in our awesome picnic spot we will hike to another beautiful lake, Lago Pehoe. On arrival at Pehoe, we will take the catamaran to the other side of the lake where we will meet our transfer vehicle for the transfer to our pretty Serrano River for our night camping in a beautiful setting with views of the Paine Massif. Showers available, inside dining if the weather is bad. Hiking time: 5 – 9 hours depending on how far the group hikes into the French Valley. B,L,D (with wine while camping).

Day 6: Today we will be reunited with our horses for the exciting ride out to Lago and Glacier Grey. This beautiful ride takes us across the flat pampas that characterize this part of Patagonia - huge skies, big spaces and dramatic mountain views throughout. After a few hours riding, we will reach the small footbridge where we will dismount before walking down to the beach for views of the iceberg choked lake and Grey Glacier, the largest in the Park. After plenty of time enjoying the scenery here, we will ride back to the Serrano River. Feeling more comfortable in the saddle, plenty of opportunities for long canters on our ride back to our pretty campsite beside the river. Arrive at the river and enjoy some chilled wine while dinner is prepared. Second night Serrano River. Showers available. Riding time: 6-7 hours. B,L,D with wine while camping.

Day 7: After breakfast we will be walking over to the river for our kayak safety briefing before we start paddling down the Serrano River for the kayaking part of this trip. Our journey takes us through the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park (the largest in the country) past Tyndall and Geike Glaciers finishing at the mouth of the river where it spills into Last Hope Sound.    On arrival at the Serrano Falls we will carry our kayaks a short distance before finding a suitable place to camp for the night. This is wild camping under the huge Patagonian skies with just the sounds of the nearby river and the occasional rumble as the ice calves off a nearby glacier. Relax while your chef prepares dinner. Camp site with no facilities. B,L, D with wine while camping.

Day 8: Now familiar with our kayaks, we will continue paddling down river to Puerto Toro where we will haul out our kayaks and walk to the nearby Serrano Glacier to relax and enjoy the amazing glacial views. At lunchtime we will take the cutter out across the fjords of Last Hope Sound to the remote, waterside estancia Perales. Here we will enjoy a delicious BBQ lamb feast before we are shown to our rooms in the nearby estancia house. This estancia occupies a privileged location beside the water with
comfortable rooms all offering en suite facilities. There is a comfortable living area in the main house with plenty of walks or fishing in the area. Dinner and night at the estancia. B, L, D (excluding wine/drinks with dinner).

Day 9: After a leisurely breakfast, we will join our transfer vehicle for the short drive back to Puerto Natales. On arrival clients can enjoy a yoga session to stretch those tired muscles or an aromatherapy or hot stone massage to soothe aching limbs and relax. Breakfast only.
