Operator's Itinerary

Day 1:

Public transportation from Puerto Natales at 07.30 to Laguna Amarga, the main entrance of the Torres del Paine National Park. Here we will connect with a transfer that will take us to the Hotel Las Torres (11.00 am). For the rest of the day we will walk to the Campamento Bader along a trail known as the 'Cuernos Pass' which links the Hotel Las Torres with the Campamento Italiano. The last section of the trail passes along the slopes of the Cerro Almirante Nieto. There is no official trail as this valley is only used by expeditions that are going to climb the walls of this mountain. This campsite is located in a small patch of lenga beech trees and it has a small cabin which was built by the climbers themselves whilst they waited for good weather. It is considered to be the gateway to the Bader Valley.

Walking Time: 5 hours

Accommodation: Campamento Bader

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2:

Leaving the woods we find the north-western wall of the East Cuerno and perfect fissures can be seen on the granite. The ascent of the valley crosses an expansive glacial moraine of granite rocks which have formed small valleys and lagoons. The wind too has produced a very remarkable splendor to this place. Is this treks is possible to see the Hoja (Leaf), Mascara (Mask) and Espada (Sword) hills, all of them made of granite walls between 700 to 900 Mts. high. From Bader is another perspective of the Torres, the big wall of the South Tower and the hanging Glacier on its base. If the weather conditions allow it the trek can last all day. Back to Los Cuernos Refugio Campsite.

Walking Time: 7/8 hours

Accommodation: Camping Los Cuernos

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3:

The walk goes to reach Campamento Italiano, close to the French Glacier, which is famous for its constantly falling ice and small avalanches. We will continue climbing into the interior of the French Valley with the Principal and North Cuernos as our faithful companions during our approach to the Campamento Brit?nico. This campsite is well protected from the wind also a quiet place.

Walking Time: 6 hours

Accommodation: Campamento Britanico

Day 4:

We will start this day very early. There are two alternatives dependent on the climatic conditions. The best option is to walk to the base of Cerro Fortaleza (Fortress) reaching a height of 1,500 meters. This is an awesome lookout which offers a panoramic view of the western sector of the French Valley and the mountains such as the North Peak of Paine Grande, Castillo (Castle), Cota 2000, Catedral, Aleta del Tiburon (Shark's Fin) amongst other granite peaks. The ascent to this lookout point is across a great granite moraine. The other option is to circle around the Aleta del Tiburon entering via the lower part of the Frances and walking to the bases of the giant walls of granite of the mountains Catedral, Aguja Quirquinchos (Armadillo Spikes) and Los Gemelos (The Twins). Here the maximum height we will reach is around 1000 meters. From this side, we can see the eastern mountains such as Espada (Sword), Mascara (Mask), Hoja (Leaf) and the Cuernos del Paine which are all granite walls reaching as high as 2,600 meters.

Walking Time: 7/8 hours

Accommodation: Campamento Britanico Italiano

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5:

The descent will take half a day to reach the Lodge Paine Grande, leaving behind the largest valley in Torres del Paine, a place full of history and of great mountaineering exploits in the 1970's and 1980's when the first ascents of many of the peaks were first achieved. In order to get back to Puerto Natales, we have two catamaran sailing times: one at 12.00 hrs. and the other at 18.00 hrs. The first time is the most recommended in order to reach Natales around 17.30 hrs.
