Overall, how was your trip?

There were so many great highlights of the trip. I very much so appreciated the progression of hikes and thought the order in which we encountered them was perfect. I think if things had gone in any different order, it would not have been nearly as good. The very best part though was our guides. Juli and Claudio were perfection. Thank you for trusting us to them - they both did a phenomenal job! I can't recommend anyone more highly. They went out of their way so many times to ensure we had an unforgettable trip.

In one sentence, what did you think of Patagonia? Did it live up to your expectations?

This was an amazing trip that was so thoughtfully planned out and had a wonderful progression from venue to venue. The trip was utterly brilliant.

How was the service that Swoop provided?

Without a doubt the staff was amazing in organizing this trip and helping me along the way. I am very grateful to them. I did have a few recommendations for future travelers. It will be important to let them know that they will be carrying all the gear they will need for 5 days in Torres del Paine. One of the members in our group was completely surprised by this and was not sure if she would have booked this trip had she known. In the end, it all worked out well, but she was rather anxious. The hotel in El Calafate was not really the best. The shower head fell off and hit me on the head, the beds were uncomfortable, breakfast was lacking, room sound proofing was limited and there was a terrible smell in our first room so we had to move. With that said, this did little to inhibit the amazing adventure we were on. A low point to the trip was that we ended in Valpairiso. I should have followed the planned recommendation of going to Ushuaia or gone somewhere else. Valpairiso was a stark contrast to the beauty of Patagonia and not quite the relaxing port city I though it was. I should have done more research on that and hold myself accountable for that decision. Although the graffiti was interesting, it was not really enough to overcome the poverty and disrepair with which the city suffers. Again though, this end to our trip did little to dissuade my gratitude and appreciation to Swoop for organizing our Patagonian experience.

How was your experience in Santiago and the surrounding area?

I really can't recommend Valparaiso. The city is a bit too dirty and every corner we came across was riddled with the stench of both animal and human waste. It does not pair well with the grandeur of Patagonia. The hotel was very nice but they did take my laundry bag. As strange as it sounds, the bag had a lot of sentimental value to me. They swapped it with a much lower quality bag and tried to tell me that this as mine. I never was able to get my bag back. The tour guide we had in Santiago was not someone I could recommend. He told us the same highlight repeatedly and seemed to be more interested in talking to our driver. He did not seem to have a good understanding of the local geography. On the other hand, the driver we had was utterly exceptional. He came back to pick us up early as we did not like Valparaiso and preferred to go to a mall in Santiago and spend a few extra hours at the airport The driver gave us such a better tour of the city and better sense of the history of Valparaiso and Santiago. He really should have been the tour guide. He was simply great.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

I have recommended Swoop to a few people already because I felt that I was really attended to and they understood the kind of trip I wanted. They did a perfect job in providing this.
