Overall, how was your trip?

Highlight was the entire w trek, including the scenery, the challenge of the hike, meeting people along the way. Within the w trek the glacier trek, french valley day hike and torres hike were the best. It was enjoyable to completely disconnect and have no internet, email, phone, text, etc. Most of the people that we met were happily doing the same and had a variety of backgrounds and stories. The paine grande refugio was our least favorite and if there is a way to skip that, that would be advised.

In one sentence, what did you think of Patagonia? Did it live up to your expectations?

Patagonia is breathtaking, stunning, challenging, invigorating, and exceeded our high expectations.

Would you visit again?

Yes

How was the service that Swoop provided?

Happy we went with Swoop. Loved Patagonia and loved Matetic. Really helpful to have an expert make the connections for us in Torres. We had all of the info we needed from the itinerary and felt like we didn't have to stress about details while we were there. While we enjoyed Puerto Varas, it did not live up to either Torres or Matetic. In particular, we would strongly advise against booking the mountain biking tour for clients in the future. The guide was excellent, but the tour was far and away the most challenging aspect of the trip and was essentially biking up hill in sand for 45 minutes.

How was your experience in Santiago and the surrounding area?

The food at Matetic was excellent, as were the accommodations, service and the grounds. The guides at Matetic were also great (we went horseback riding and biking - both of which were a lot of fun and were relaxing). We were only in Santiago over night, we got a nice dinner and otherwise stayed in the hotel since we had a 4am flight, so not a lot of commentary / feedback there. That said, we were glad that our trip was focused on more rural / adventurous excursions and not on Santiago.

How was your hike in Torres del Paine?

Highlights were glacier hike, french valley and torres. Scenery exceeded expectations, even after all of the photos we looked at. We saw minimal wildlife (a few zorros, condors and rabbits). No guide on our hike - the hike was challenging, fun and invigorating. Accommodations were great, especially the hotel at glacier grey, and the hotel del paine. Along the way, the refugios operated by Fantastico Sur were far superior to the other operator. The partner in Puerto Natales was also great and very helpful on our first day there. The driver we had on our first day was also great.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

This was our favorite trip we have ever taken and we would not hesitate to return to Chile and especially the Patagonia region. Although we may have changed a few accommodations or activities, the overall planning by Swoop contributed to a very stress-free vacation. Sally was accommodating, responsive and helpful throughout the planning process and made things easy. We would definitely recommend friends contact Swoop.

How did you enjoy your time and excursions in/around Puerto Varas?

The hotel was nice and comfortable, the food in Puerto Varas was excellent and a lot of nice / small restaurants. The kayak tour was a lot of fun, and mostly relaxing. The lunch provided at Sra. Yolanda's house was very good, and she was super sweet. The mountain bike tour guide and equipment were great, however the trip itself were exceedingly challenging to the point that it was not enjoyable (this feedback coming from a marathon runner). We wouldn't advise this, and instead would recommend the beer / bike tour that they offer instead. Four days in Puerto Varas was also more than we needed. While it was good on its own, it did not live up to Torres or Matetic. If we were advising friends to go on a trip like this, we would advise them to go to Matetic or Torres, but look for somewhere other than Puerto Varas as it did not live up to the other two locations.
