Something Else?

The Guides were really something else. Walk Patagonia’s Julie was the kindest, warmest hiking guide I’d ever had. It really made me enjoy the Reserva Los Huemules as she genuinely engaged with us throughout the day. The Mardsen dinner with Virginia and Zoe was the most remarkable. We were truly surprised at how much fun we had. Chile Nativo’s Thomas was the most impressively knowledgeable, (and looks like Jake Gylenhaal 😊). He and the driver made our TDP drive really memorable. Estancia La Peninsula is run by the most amazing staff, and our guide Magi so happy and chipper. The choices of hotels are also superb. Shuen had large rooms and kind, helpful staff; Vendaval was amazingly smack in the town with awesome views, and the staff super helpful; Hosteria Sanderos had terrible wifi but the lovely staff more than made up for anything lacking. Their restaurant had really good food! Finally, Madre Tierra’s Mariano helped save our day when he offered to lend us the local currency needed for our Mayo Trek Boat Tour! It’s a surreal experience in all, so thank you Swoop Patagonia!

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Get a SIM card prior to arriving if connectivity is important as the long days on excursions and drives will mean no wifi. Otherwise, be happy unplugged 😊. Bring wind proof and rain proof clothing to all excursions, and be reasonably fit for even the “easiest” strolls as the hikes are in almost untouched nature. Have more than one camera or more than one battery pack as the cold will sap the battery power real fast. Tip the staff generously cos they are so wonderful 😊
