What was your most memorable moment?

It is hard to pick just one as every day found new and really memorable events. But I’ll say seeing an avalanche come off the Paine Grande was really special. We witnessed it on the Miradores hike.

Were Swoop right to recommend Patagonia Camp?

Yes

Tell us about Patagonia Camp

We were very happy with their services. From a driver picking us up at the airport, the transportation back to Punta Arenas was great. We had two guides over the three excursion days, and loved them both. Marcelo, and Rosario were so friendly and knowledgeable really can’t say enough about them. Room was wonderful, and the little things like turning down the beds while we were at dinner were very nice. Kind of wished we had chosen a room with hot tub however. One not great thing, yurt 10 does not have a view of the water, which was disappointing. Staff were incredible from the front desk, the manager, wait staff all top notch. I would have to say a couple of the dinners were disappointing, and breakfast wasn’t anything amazing. The packed sandwiches for that matter weren’t very good either now that I think about it. But overall incredible and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Tell us about Torres del Paine

It surpassed most of my expectations! It’s just one of those magical places on the planet. The hike to the base of the towers was a bit crowded but that was expected so not a surprise at all. While that hike was the one we had really highlighted as a must do. I think we enjoyed the smaller Miradores hike more since it was just myself and my wife, and we didn’t need to be concerned with the pace of our hike, or how quickly we needed to go, etc. Also the Glacier Grey boat ride was just incredible too! Although the boat trip is a bit more on the party boat side of things, and real short on information about the glaciers.

Something Else?

Nothing I can really think of…will probably keep Swoop in mind for an arctic trip some day.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Make sure to plan enough time to visit where you want to go. Plan in some rest days if you intend to hike a lot. If COVID is still around be prepared to make changes on real short notice. We had to redo half our trip a few days before we left as the border near El Calafate was still closed.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I really didn’t have much knowledge about Chile prior to coming here, but this is a beautiful country, and very friendly people. I absolutely love it, and wish I had even more time to enjoy it. We are still in the country currently and will be in Puerto Varas tomorrow for a few days before going home.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Sydney was great. She came through with the recommendation for Puerto Varas when the Argentina portion of our trip had to be rethought. For Swoop, maybe in early planning using the website a better idea regarding costs and logistics in the area since Patagonia is obviously so large, and transportation not always so easy. Costs can also vary widely as well depending on what you do and where you are staying.

Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?

Think I have mentioned everything I could think of.
