Tell us about Patagonia Camp
The guides were phenomenal. My only complaints - and I use that word sooooo loosely - was the walkway lights outside your yurt could not be turned off and they literally illuminated the yurt so bright at night as to make sleep challenging, which was a pity because the bed and yurt itself was super comfortable. The excursions were great BUT they were very “discouraging” about some of the “harder” ones and we felt that we got “cheated” out of the Base of the Towers hike. The hikes we went on were far far far easier (like, we barely broke a sweat on the supposedly hard French Valley hike) than rated. I think they need to do a better job of assessing fitness levels and competency before discouraging people from harder excursions
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Do not let the lodges dissuade you from a “hard” hike. They rate things based on a senior citizen who isn’t in great hiking shape. If you’re active and fit, you can crush ANY of the excursions they have. PRACTICE YOUR SPANISH! We always tried to speak in Spanish and I can’t stress enough how positively this was received and how excited the staff were to help us with the language and so on. It really makes a difference.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
No. I’ve traveled the globe extensively since 1995. That said, it is always lovely, absolutely lovely, to experience other cultures, lands and people (and Chileans are some of the kindest and most welcoming people anywhere. Loved them!).

Carys and Danny were AMAZING to work with. Simply fantastic. Would use again 100%
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
It’s a place I’ve longed to visit and hike so I was certainly excited to go :)
