Tell us about Hotel Las Torres

Yes, Hotel Las Torres is in a wonderful setting, truly special. Staff was thoughtful, amenities were close by, and excursions were easy to book.

Tell us about Torres del Paine

Yes, amazing environment to explore. Hikes for every skill level, picturesque. The only downside is you are limited to the hotel for meals as you are far away from any town or other hotels - so if you want to experience some variety you wont have any options.

Tell us about the Excursions

Guides were excellent, knowledgeable, personable. Loved the mix of excursions - boat tours to the penguins and glaciers, short and long hikes to spectacular scenery (ie Mt FitzRoy), 4x4 trips in the Andes. Our only disappointment was weather and logistics kept us from kayaking and biking (no fault of Swoop).

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Plan early to get the best flights - for example, flights are limited getting out of Ushuaia top El Calafate, so if they are booked you will end up spending a lot more time flying through Buenos Aires. Watch the Swoop videos on what to pack - pack light, but pay attention when they talk about changing conditions - we experienced everything from sunny 55 degree F days to snow, sleet, rain and high winds!

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Yes, that Patagonia is a vast landscape, looking at a map doesn't provide a good sense of its scope and scale. It cant be described as only 1 thing - Patagonia connects disparate landscapes, people, and cultures. I wish we had more time to explore it. You also realize the sheer mass of the glaciers and how they are interconnected to the ice fields that run up and down the Andes - sobering to think that if world temperatures keep rising, the devastating impact it could have potentially "disconnecting" the elaborate ice field network.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

My one recommendation is our or experience with your flight travel company (Exito) was subpar. While our Swoop rep Cecilia was awesome, dealing with Exito was purely transactional. By that i mean they seemed more interested in making it easy on themselves, earning their commissions from select airlines, vs. a customer first approach. That led to flights promised but then not executed, multiple days of going "dark" (I.e. no responses to confirming flights), refusal to book flights that clearly they were not getting commission on (which meant we had to do it ourselves, in Spanish (e.g. Jet Smart). That lead to last minute scrambles on flight itins, which had a negative impact on our Plans (ie cancelled exursions, very long alternative flights). On top of that they charge $100 "service fee" - happy to pay that for good service, but not for bad service!

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

Was Super Excited to go to Patagonia, and loved our original itin. Felt the Swoop site and dashboard and videos kept us in the loop and well prepared for our trip.
