Tell us about Tierra del Fuego
The region is extremely beautiful with a huge variety of natural regions in a relatively small area. We did driving tours, walking tours, boating excursions, hiking and horseback riding, all of it surrounded by amazing views. We also enjoyed excellent meals.
Tell us about the Excursions
Our driving tour with Pedro out to the Atlantic coast was really fun and interesting. It included some very challenging off-road driving that required an experienced, trained driver. We met some extremely interesting people who live in the region and they told us about the challenges of living in such a remote part of the world. I'll never forget it. Our small, zodiac boat excursion out to Isla Martillo to see penguins was also unforgettable. We wer lucky enough to see sea lions on the same island as the penguins that day. We did a long, muddy, somewhat arduous hike to Laguna Esmeralda with Emilia. She was very helpful in getting us through the wet, difficult conditions that day. Of course, the views at the end of the hike made the muddy trekking worthwhile.

We also enjoyed some outstanding meals. I'm extra impressed because it must be very challenging to get all the necessary ingredients in such remote places.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Our Swoop guides were terrific. We found them to be very helpful and interesting. It was helpful that our son speaks Spanish because we occasionally wanted the extra language interpretation. Regarding the accommodations, it would have been nice, and less expensive if our son had been able to share a suite with us in the Hotel Cilene del Fuego in Ushuaia. It looked like one of our rooms might have been a two bedroom suite, with one bedroom locked. When we originally planned the trip I thought we were going to be able to get a single suite for the three of us.
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
We were well-prepared and felt very excited about our trip. We were a little relieved that our horseback riding excursion was shortened from 7 hours to 3 hours, because of weather. Seven hours may have been too much for us. Other than that, I can't think of a thing I would change.
