Something Else?

Punta Arenas - the Kran Kreen was not up to your standard of hotels. Great view of a concrete block wall! I was reading at 0630?and two men unlocked my door and started to enter - I shouted and they left? The hotel apologised when I mentioned it. It was the only hotel that had no one speaking English. I have to apologise for my poor Spanish.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Not sure what I was expecting but every hotel had a safe, hairdryer and at least shampoo if not conditioner and lotion. Great heaters (Sox dry by next morning) till Puerto Varas which had the first bath but not hot enough water! Room was cold and thermostat didn’t work, I did mention it but desk also spoke little English. However the bar had a roaring fire and great service. Also, as I was advised: take half the clothes and twice the cash. But I have rarely travelled like this (hotels) having camped for years with own vehicle or on own sailboat.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Again take less! Polish one’s language skills! Tipping is always tricky, even with your advice. Should have had more single dollars for buskers and small tips and bigger bills for guides. So happy that all has run smoothly

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

I had been reading for over a year and had wanted to visit since high school. Felt this was a last chance to do a trip like this at 79! Travelling alone was a blast as I met such interesting people and from all over. So very grateful that Madventure canceled my trip and I had the sense to go with Swoop and enjoy my own plumbing!

Apologies if already mentioned but the Kran Kreen in Punta Arenas was not up to your regular standard!
