Operator's Itinerary

Day 0: Preparation for the trip

In the afternoon you will have a meeting with the mountain guide that will lead the trek in San Martin de Los Andes, to check the equipment, get informed about the last details and clear up any doubts that may arise.

Accommodation: Hostel, San Martin de los Andes (not included in trip cost)

Day 1: San Martin to Valley Auquinco

Trekking time: 7 hours.

Very early, leave by car from San Martin de los Andes to Laguna Verde (2 hours). From the beach of Laguna Verde you start trekking through the woods. When you leave the forest, you will go into a black sand land that will slowly transform into a landscape similar to a high located desert. Walking through it, you will find Portezuelo Waterfall and Achen Niyeu Volcano, which has on its hillside the beginning of a beautiful Escorial, solidified lava river.

Around noon you reach the highest part of the route (1500 meters above sea level) where you will have lunch. After, start trekking down a new valley for the next two days. A steppe valley where thatch (hard grass typical of Patagonian Steppe) abounds. After wading across Auquinco Rivers water several times, you can stop to enjoy the freshness of the water and a well-deserved rest. In this valley it is normal to find traces of red deer, wild boar and, with a little luck, seeing one of them.

Accommodation: Wild camping (no services)

Day 2: Valley Auquinco to Lago Lolog

Trekking time: 5 hours.

Continue the trail south along the same valley (Valley Auquinco). After crossing the last river, begin a continuous descent towards Lago Lolog. Walking on these forests, it is common to observe birds such as the Pito, a friendly woodpecker, which is inherently hard to see. You can also see the Giant Woodpecker and the Huet-Huet, among others. In the afternoon, arrive at the shores of Lago Lolog where you set up your tents to spend the night.

Accommodation: Wild camping (no services)

Day 3: Lago Lolog to San Martin

Trekking time: 4/5 hours.

After a good breakfast by the lake, start the last day of the program. This day takes place along the shoreline of Lago Lolog, in a thick fresh humid forest. After two hours trekking, we will get to Playa Bonita (Beautiful Beach) and weather permitting, this is a great place for a stop and a swim in the lake. After lunch, continue to Puerto Arturo where a transfer will be waiting for you to return to San Martin de los Andes.

Accommodation: Hostel, San Martin de los Andes (not included in trip cost)
