Estancia Harberton

Estancia Harberton is an old farm situated in Tierra del Fuego on the shore of the Beagle Channel. Although no longer keeping sheep, the estancia still raises cattle alongside providing accommodation for visitors from October to April. The estancia is visited on some boat trips from Ushuaia, and there are guides who give guided tours of the farm and the area's oldest Nature Reserve.

Harberton was the first estancia established on the island of Tierra del Fuego in 1886. It was brought here from England by Thomas Bridges, a missionary who had come to evangelise the Yaghan peoples who lived there. Thomas Bridges and his family were the first family to live peacefully (apart from one occurence) amongst the Yaghan and the sixth generation of the family still lives there today.
