Operator's Itinerary

Day 1: Hike to the Milodon Caves

We will pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Natales and drive to the Milodon Cave sector, an area filled with plenty of geographical history! We begin our hike by first visiting the viewpoint over the Cueva Grande (Large Cave) ascending 600 meters (1,968 ft.) where our guide will introduce us to the fauna and flora of the region.

With sweeping views of the surrounding landscapes, this is a great spot for some photos before we continue onto a private sector where we can observe condoreras (natural condor colonies) and native lenga forests. Here we will also be welcomed with spectacular views of the Sofia Lagoon and far-reaching fjords below us. Continuing, we will move alongside mountainous walls to see the first cave paintings where we learn their significant value to the region and their history before heading along the south-east side, where a mysterious cave of approximately 70 square meters is located.

Here we must enter with headlamps to discover the millenary stalactite mineral formations which have taken millions of years to form! After carefully inspecting these incredible formations, we leave the cave and head towards the eaves of “Two Horseshoes” and later discover even more cave paintings on the rocky walls. These historical footprints and archaeological remains were left by the indigenous natives of the region who used these caves and walls to protect themselves, live and eat.

Upon our return, we will visit the Milodon Cave Natural Monument, a 200-metre-long cave where the remains of a mylodon, a large ground sloth, and other early Patagonian animals were discovered dating from the Pleistocene epoch. After our time exploring this magnificent natural formation, we will enjoy our box lunch to end our trip at this spectacular location.

Dinner will be at a local restaurant in Puerto Natales.

Length of hike: 4hrs, 11km/6.8 miles

Meals: Boxed lunch, dinner

Accommodation: The Veat Hotel, Puerto Natales or similar

Day 2: Hike from Estancia Lazo to Weber Bridge

Early in the morning your guide and private transfer will pick you up from your hotel accommodation in Puerto Natales, driving along the coast and through the Chilean Pampas up to one of the prettiest estancias of the area, Estancia Lazo.

A huge working cattle ranch which dates from the early 20th Century, this ranch is crowned by splendid views of the Paine Massif and Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon). Depending on the season, our hike today will be punctuated by panoramic views of the Park; with orchids, calceolarias and neneos flowering at our feet, and condors soaring overhead.

The highest point of this trail connects to a rarely-trekked path from Estancia Lazo to Webber Bridge, in the heart of Torres Del Paine National Park. We will reach the Toro Lake Lookout which offers an incredible 180-degree view of the Toro Lake and Serrano River below, as well as the Donoso & Ferrier Mountains and valleys.

After descending to the Webber Bridge, our private transfer will be waiting to take us to our luxurious accommodation for the evening, Hotel Lago Grey.

Length of hike: 5hrs, 13km/8 miles

Meals: Breakfast, boxed lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Hotel Lago Grey or similar

Day 3: Kayaking at Grey River

After an early breakfast, you will meet your kayaking guide at Hotel Lago Grey. In this area, with views of Paine Grande and Grey Glacier as our morning backdrop, you’ll be briefed on kayaking safety and paddling techniques. You’ll paddle for approximately 3 hours.

While paddling, take time to look around you: the granite peaks of Paine Grande, Cordon Olguín and Los Cuernos interplay beautifully with the water’s multiple shades of turquoise.

We’ll begin our descent of Grey River, which snakes through canyons bubbling with rapids and framed by steep rock faces.

After paddling we’ll arrive at our end point where we will change out of our wetsuits and head back to our hotel.

Length of kayaking: 3hrs paddling

Meals: Breakfast, boxed lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Hotel Lago Grey or similar

Day 4: Hike to Salto Grande and viewpoints

A morning transfer will take you to Salto Grande Waterfall where we’ll begin our hike. Our first destination is the Paine Grande and Lake Nordensjköld lookout point.

Here, we’ll have lunch before setting off for Mirador Condor (Condor Lookout) along a path offering changing panoramic views of the Park and views of Pehoe Lake and twin granite peaks Los Cuernos from the summit. Have your cameras ready at the condor viewpoint: this is a prime spot for observing condors and black-chested buzzard eagles as they glide and soar above.

We’ll return along the same path to our transfer which will take us to our cosy accommodations for the evening.

Length of hikes: 3hrs, approx 6km

Meals: Breakfast, boxed lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Hotel Lago Grey or similar

Day 5: Hike to the base of the Towers; transfer to Puerto Natales

Today, we begin early with an energy-boosting breakfast to prepare us for our final trek—the base of the iconic Towers. Along with our guide, we take a 1.5 hour transfer to the Las Torres Sector of the park where our trek begins with an ascent, following the Ascencio River into the Ascencio Valley.

After about an hour, we’ll stop to observe how the valley’s beauty unfolds with rich beech forests, glaciers and waterfalls.

Past this lookout point, we continue uphill and through lush beech forests before ascending a gigantic terminal moraine (the ridge formed at a glacier’s endpoint) where we’ll be rewarded by the arresting sight of the three Towers themselves.

At this lookout point 900 m (2,953 ft.) above sea level, we’ll rest, take photos and have lunch. Our descent is along the same path, taking us back to our transfer that will drive us back to Puerto Natales.

Length of hike: 8-10hrs,  22 km / 13.6 mi

Meals: Breakfast, boxed lunch
