Day 1: Punta Arenas - Puerto Natales
Collect your hire car in Punta Arenas. Take some time to explore the southernmost city of the American continent, sitting on the edge of the Strait of Magellan. The city has experienced European exploration, colonisation, cultural conflict with indigenous peoples and gateway status to the Antarctic. Sites of interest include the main square with its grand monument to Magellan, the Naval and Maritime Museum, the Nao Victoria Museum, the Patagonian Institute and of course the city's south facing coastline which looks onto Tierra del Fuego.
Once you are ready, head north for your two and a half hour drive to Puerto Natales where you can plan your next two days exploring Torres del Paine.
Length of self-drive: 250km
Accommodation: Hotel, Puerto Natales
Day 2: Puerto Natales - Torres del Paine
The drive to Torres del Paine National Park will take you deep into the Patagonian countryside travelling through pampa grass steppes typical of the region. Many people choose to stop at the Milodon Cave national monument just 15km out of Puerto Natales where scientists discovered the remains of a gigantic prehistoric sloth. Continue north into Torres del Paine, one of the world's most remarkable national parks where you are met by majestic mountain peaks, glaciers, lakes and rivers. Either check-in at your hotel or spend the full day exploring.
We recommend, because of the park's size that you focus on a different area each day. You may want to challenge yourself by doing one of the epic hikes from the W Trek, such as the renowned hike up Ascension Valley and moraine to the Base of the Towers Viewpoint. Alternatively, enjoy more frequent stops with shorter hikes to various viewpoints.

Accommodation: Hotel, Torres del Paine
Day 3: Torres del Paine
A second full day to explore Torres del Paine National Park. Enjoy some more hiking or perhaps take a cruise on Lago Grey to the front of the Grey Glacier. Maybe instead consider an another activity type such horse riding, kayaking or fishing.

Day 4: Torres del Paine - Punta Arenas
Today, drive back to Punta Arenas to drop off your hire car. Self-drive: 400km
What our customers think
This was an amazing experience - we pushed our bodies to the limit, and together as newlyweds. We also learned so much more about tires than we ever thought we would know about. If anything, I personally learned more patience and problem-solving. The amount of nature and scenery was absolutely what we were looking for in a holiday. And improving on our Spanish knowledge was a plus.
