Operator's Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Trelew Puerto Madryn and transfer to Puerto Piramides

Arrive at Trelew Airport (REL) or Puerto Madryn Airport (PMY) and enjoy a private transfer with your guide/driver to your hotel in Puerto Piramides with its vast beach, endless coastline and beautiful viewpoints. You'll have time to explore the visitor centre en route.

Depending on the time of your arrival and the tides, there may be a chance to see southern right whales from the coast of Puerto Madryn, at the nearby beach of El Doradillo. The best time of year for this is from June to the end of September.

Otherwise, you might like to enjoy the quaint town with its museums and excellent seafood restaurants.

Accommodation: Hosteria del Nomade or equivalent, Puerto Pirámides

Day 2: Whale watching; Half-day kayaking

In the morning, you'll embark on a whale watching boat ride. Take your place on the Yellow Submarine where you can see whales from under the water as well as from the surface. This unique experience will allow you to view these magnificent, giant creatures in their environment and gain a different appreciation for their grace and beauty.

You'll also drive to the east coast of the peninsula to view elephant seals and other wildlife, such as maras (Patagonian hare), Darwin rheas, armadillos, skunks, cormorants and giant petrels on what is an equivalent to being on a Patagonian safari with your guide.

In the afternoon, take a different perspective on the ocean as you enjoy a sea kayaking excursion and perhaps see more southern right whales from a distance and other marine mammals such as sea lions. Alternatively, you may be able to snorkel at a rock reef to see various aquatic life (not sealions) Please note snorkelling is possible from Puerto Piramides from Dec 15th until April (it's not allowed during whale season).

Return to Puerto Pirámides for a beautiful sunset and time to relax and enjoy the cool vibe of the town.

Day 3: Guided tour - Caleta Valdes, Punta Norte and San Lorenzo Penguin Colony

Today, you'll be with your driver/guide for the penguin circular trail. Estancia San Lorenzo Nature Reserve is located within the Peninsula Valdés Protected Natural Area. On its coasts, a colony of more than 600,000 Magellan penguins is located. You'll be able to walk among the penguins as they wander right across your trail (but you can't touch them). These cute little creatures never fail to fascinate as you wander the trails at their nesting site. The Magellanic penguins come to shore to breed around October and will stay until March.

Other wildlife you might expect to see with your specialist guide will be guanacos, Patagonian hares and rheas, as today you cover over 200km in total before returning to Puerto Pirámides for the evening.

Meals: Breakfast, picnic lunch

Accommodation: Hosteria del Nomade or equivalent, Puerto Pirámides

Day 4: Private transfer to Puerto Madryn or Trelew Airport

Say goodbye to the magical UNESCO-protected area of Peninsula Valdés today as you are taken by guide/driver to Puerto Madryn Airport (2hrs) or Trelew Airport (3hrs).

If your flight is after midday we can attempt to make another stop at El Doradillo beach, where whales dare to venture to within metres of the beach – a truly impactful sight with which to say goodbye to the region.
