About the Estancia

You'll be greeted at the entrance to one of Argentina’s oldest estancias, just a 2½-hour drive from Buenos Aires. This 19th-century ranch with its own stables honours the traditional equestrian heritage of La Bamba de Areco; each room is named after a horse. They're also intentionally free from distractions. No WIFI. No TVs. So you can truly unwind. Sink into Egyptian linens while noting how the contemporary South American art contrasts against the dark floors and antique furnishings.

Beyond the rooms, the estate offers a large pool surrounded by century-old plane trees, a well-stocked library housed in the guard tower and sprawling green grounds perfect for riding or a leisurely sit in one of the horse-drawn carriages.

Estancia La Bamba - Gaucho Greeting

Why we like this hotel

  • The meet & greet with a gaucho waiting for you at the gate and following the vehicle down the driveway is very special.
  • Really beautiful grounds, linked to a polo team, so sometimes polo practice on site (not guaranteed).
  • Great home-cooked food, lovely asado area under a pagoda.
  • Empanada cooking classes, mate & wine tasting available.
  • Choose from 11 rustically elegeant rooms.

We think it's worth noting

  • Rooms are relatively small and can get dark (due to the traditional style).
  • Dining is all communal, which might not suit every guest.
  • This beautiful property is not a working estancia, and all horse riding is on the gentle side. If you're looking for a working ranch or challenging rides, speak to our team to find the right property for you.
  • The estancia welcomes guests aged 12 years and over.

Arriving here was definitely a special moment with the gaucho greeting. There's a good range of activities with daily horse rides, bikes, billiards, mate-making classes and a carriage experience. I enjoyed the food with the estancia's focus on the on-site production. I also experienced exceptional service from all the staff, which made my (brief) stay memorable.
