Operator's Itinerary

1st Day We will pick you up at the airport in Puerto Montt. On our way to Puerto Varas we will visit the fish and craft market of Angelmó. After that, we will take you to your Hotel. Your guide will give you a briefing of the horseback tour and clarified all your questions. 2nd Day A private transfer will take you to the Riverside Lodge, near the Cochamó River Bridge by 10.00 am. Re-pack, load your gear on the horses and set off through the fields and rainforest. A quick stop for a picnic lunch, and continue on to the La Junta valley. Tea and fresh cake wait on the terrace of our outback Mountain Lodge. Enjoy a traditional dinner; overnight at lodge. 3th Day Today, enjoy a day ride – or combine some riding with hiking - in the La Junta Valley, along the Val Verde and Traídor River trails. Return to the lodge for overnight as previous. 4th Day Bid farewell to the mountains, and head back down the canyon on horseback. Arrive at Riverside Lodge in time for tea. Settle into a cabana room with private bath, and unwind. Enjoy a candle-lit dinner. 5th Day After a relaxed breakfast, take a ½-day ride up a neighboring valley; and, if the tide is right, also enjoy a short1-2- hour ride along the marshes and beach to Cochamó village and back. Overnight as previous. 6th Day After breakfast, you will meet your tour leader and driver, load the minibus and drive to the Tagua - Tagua Lake. Time for picnic before crossing the lake, a ferry will take us to the other side where will drive for another half an hour. Meet the baqueanos and the horses. Pack all our stuff and off we go! We will ride till we get to the shore of the river. Here the horse must cross swimming, and us on a motorboat. Arrival to our lodging place. 7th Day After a good breakfast and organizing packhorses, we will start our day riding in direction along the Puelo River. Untouchable ancient forests and straight passes will be our scenery, a wild trail to experience how the first pioneers travelled in the area. Lunch box. Afternoon arrive to our accommodation with a nice view of the valley. 8th Day Today will be long day riding. Some difficult terrain. The only way of knowing this isolated and unique corner of Patagonia is by horse. You will continue discovering how amazing they are and feel a close relation with them. In the afternoon we will arrive to a Puerto Urrutia and say good-bye to the baqueanos and horses since tomorrow we will get new horses and staff. Transfer by motorboat up the river to a cosy cottage where we will spend one night. Amazing views of the river and mountains. Dinner and accommodation. 9th Day We will take just a short boat trip in order to start our full day horse riding expedition. New horses will be with us from today on wards. Enjoy this fantastic landscape and cross the river just as the locals do: on a wooden public boat while the horses swim alongside. Ride into the Ventisqueros valley where we will stop for lunch and relax. In the afternoon, the ride will get us to a little house where the owners are lodging us for 2 nights. Day 9 – March 21 After breakfast and packing we embark on a gentle full-days ride, crossing the river once more to join the other valley and approach its glacier. This little Valley turns wild and remote, with incredible flora and devoid of habitants. We will arrive close to the Alerces forest on this occasion. Box lunch and ride back to our guest farmhouse. Later there is a chance to go for a walk around the area or simply relax with a glass of wine. Another unforgettable day 10th Day Breakfast and then set off on a full-day ride towards "la Pasarela del Rio Puelo", an important local hanging bridge. Crucial for the communication between the local inhabitants and the outside world. This area is particularly spectacular due to its huge waterfalls and rapids. Stop for a picnic lunch near the bridge. Ride crossing the wild ancient forest.. We reach Lago Las Rocas. 10 minutes boat trip to Bandurrias Island. Accommodation, tea and a great dinner at this enchanting and remote cottage. Two nights here. 11th Day Breakfast and depart. This morning we’ll enjoy 2 hrs ride visiting the Blue Lake "Lago Azul" with its crystal clear waters and abundant fish life. The majestic peaks and stunning landscapes will not escape your attention! Picnic and relax on the shore of the lake. After lunch our ride follows deep and straight passes along the forest reaching the south part of this lake. Passing through the typical cold jungle, Valdivian-type rainforest with its ancient Alerces trees (Fitzroy Cupresoide) as well as other local "giants" such as the "Coihue" and "Arrayanes"(the cold tree) After leaving the horses in a safe place we will return back to the Island to enjoy the rest of the afternoon there. 12th Day After breakfast, say goodbye to our hostess and depart. We will sail back where the “Huasos” and the horses spent the night. Today we will ride for just half the day. Having passports at hand we will reach the Mountain Police Station, "Retén de Carabineros". This leads to the border crossing, close to the edge of the Puelo River. Great view of the Inferior Lake. Clear Chilean customs and immigration by horse. Continue to the shore of Lake Puelo in Argentina. Say good-bye to the baqueanos and horses, last boat trip into the Argentine territory. Sail Lago Puelo in the National park. On arrival we will go through the Argentine border formalities. Private transfer to El Bolsón. Lunch at a great local restaurant and time to by some souvenirs or explore the area. We will spend the night in this little town to star our adventure on the Argentinean side next morning. 13th Day Transfer from El Bolsón in direction to El Maiten. Transfer on private minibus to El Maitén village; possibly visit to the Train Museum if it is open. Lunch. In one part of the road we will get our horses. The ride starts going across estancias up to reach the small aboriginal village called Norquinco. We will follow this railway that leads us to a towards an abandoned steam train station in Fitalancao It used to communicate the other villages in the early 40’s.. The trail will guide us to an old and traditional working estancia. This last century estancia has been refurbished but keeping it’s own style. Visit to the shearing shed and the working depots. For dinner we will enjoy a delicious asado with local veggies and Argentinean wine Night at estancia. 14th Day After breakfast, the horses will take us up across the Patagonian steppe where the vegetation changes finding boxed-leafed barberry, fire bushes and fire tongue. The trail will go up to the mountains to cross Las Serruchas. Pass, stunning views of the Tronador Mountain, its glaciers and the endless steppe. Camp. 15th Day Today we will go down horse trek on a tricky terrain. There is a possibility to stop at Miranda’s family who live very close to an abandoned lead mine. This place shows the remains of the past when adventures came to find gold here. Short stop to visit the place and meet the local family an their young gauchos. Afternoon we start riding along the Valley. Lots of river crossings, uphill through the Chubut Valley. Camp here at 1500 a.s.l. Some nomads’ shepherds are still spending some time there. Another delicious meal 16th Day Great camp breakfast and pack. Ride will follow to Carreras mountain high pass at 1800 a.s.l. A good spot for watching condors and eagles and plenty of wildlife from the Pichileufú Valley too. We will start our descent towards the Pichileufú River with dry vegetation. Stop and afternoon ride to Río Pichileufú. Camp at the riverside. 17th Day Early breakfast. Check gear and horses. We will start our ride and pass arroyo la mina from here we will reach great panoramic view from the Valley Alto Chubut. After lunch, - the Cerro Las Buitreras and then the ride will take us to Estancia Ñirihuau a 180 has timber forest with 70 has more used for riding and training horses. A minibus will take us 30 km to the hotel in Bariloche. Night at Hotel and dinner. We will all go for a traditional barbeque dinner at a local restaurant. Back to hotel. 18th Day Breakfast at Hotel. Depending on your departure flight you will have the chance to explore the area and get great views from the Cerro Otto or any last minute shopping. Bariloche is situated on the shore of lake Nahuel Huapi, big touristic ski town surrounded by mountains. Transfer to the airport Please enquire for rates & availability.
