Spending an hour walking among the penguins at Martillo Island was no doubt the highlight of the trip. It was magical watching the goofy graceful creatures, and the young ones, peeking from the burrows with curiosity or playing with their parents. We got to see Magellanic, and surprisingly many Gentoo. Other highlights: Perito Moreno Glacier, and hiking at the amazing mountains at El Chalten.

When the weather cleared up the second morning in Torres del Paine and I could enjoy all the views during the Scenic Tour, which I had to choose due to a twisted knee. But totally enjoyed that day!

Round trip on the Stella Australis was wonderful. Friendly crew, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Expedition Team, amazing trips. The mountains and glaciers are stunning and we were lucky to see them in unusually warm and sunny weather. The Australis got us to places we wouldn’t have otherwise seen. We saw dolphins, penguins, black-browed albatross, Black-faced ibis, Kelp geese’s and Giant Southern Petrel (my favourites). We also had a couple of land-based tours that were great (arranged privately).

Our visit was memorable, a mixture of city/town life and the great outdoors. Just moosying around Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales at our leisure, either taking in the museums or the varied bars and cafes, to get a feel for the culture and history was so rewarding. Then there was the Torres big circuit, the challenge of the weather and the spectacular scenery....where would one begin - just do it and live the experience? And then while you are enjoying the scenery, there is the wildlife to watch out for, whether this be for the birding - which if you lucky and knowledgeable about is great, or the elusive puma - and yes, we saw one! Of course there is then the new found friendships;- fellow hikers on your 'tour', other hikers as the sites and in our case the exceptional guides and support staff. Yes, we had some moments....cold, wet, thigh deep snow and more rain but hey what are waterproofs for :).

The hike to Torres del Paine, I didn't know I had it in me to do it! Even though, I did not get to see the towers, it was a cloudy, rainy, snowy day; just about a peak of one of them, it was just a great accomplishment!

Meeting new people from many different places. Living in Colorado we love the outdoors, which we truly enjoyed the great outdoors in Patagonia as well.

Climbing up the last part of the Base of the Towers hike and seeing the view for the first time. This was made even more special when the clouds rolled in as we left and it began to snow. Perfect timing!

Highlight for us as we are avid hikers was Laguna de los Tres. The entire trail is scenic and the view from the top is otherworldly. A common reply from friends we sent photos to was "that doesn't look real" and they were right. The landscape is so dramatic at times that it seems unnatural...surreal. One surprising thing for us was how much we wore the buffs that Swoop sent before the trip. When we got them we thought they were strange and so thin that they would be of little use. We were wrong. We used them almost every day and they have become our new favorite piece of gear!

The trek was extremely challenging, both physically and mentally. The landscapes are incredible. The people I met were likeminded and a pleasure to be with. I think, the terrain was the biggest surprise in terms of the difficulty levels associated with ascent/descent and underfoot.

There were so many. We loved being under the canopy of stars and photographing the Milky Way; walking and biking on the Uyuni Flats and enjoying the sunset; watching the birth of a baby llama

There were so many. Getting to the look out on the French Valley hike with my whole family is something that I will always cherish. The other guests that we met and had meals and adventures with were amazing as well.
