Day 2: First day in Cerro Castillo National Reserve
Start the trek with a leisurely stroll through the town, passing by beautiful Chilean farms. As you ascend to the glacial lake of Cerro Castillo, panoramic vistas of the surrounding valleys will begin to appear. You'll leave the shade of the forest and hike along the rock scree of Cerro Castillo on well-worn trails, finally arriving at the glacial, turquoise lake of said mountain.
Enjoy lunch soaking up the view and then begin your descent along the opposite side of the mountain, where you can soak your feet in the icy waters of Cerro Castillo. The camp for the evening is located within the forests with excellent sights of the hanging glaciers.
Once you've had a chance to relax in camp, ask your guides to take you up to the hanging glacier for even more amazing views and enjoy a little whiskey on million year old ice!
Day 3: Cerro Castillo, hike to Morro Negro
After a restful night within the mountains of Patagonia, you'll wake up before the sun and begin a short 30 minute hike to a nearby knoll offering stunning views of Cerro Castillo.
Bring your sleeping bag and curl up as you wait for the sun to rise and capture the glaciers of Cerro Castillo burning red with the dawn. Once the sun has risen, breakfast will be waiting as you arrive back at camp.
Pack up and begin hiking back up the pass to Morro Negro, passing the enormous glaciers of Cerro Castillo, and then descend to Camp Porteadores and eventually Camp Neozelandes, the high mountain camp between Cerro Palo and Cerro Castillo.
Accommodation: Camp Neozelandes
Day 4: Cerro Castillo, hike to Lago Yagan
On your final day, awake alongside the rumbles of crystal clear rivers and enjoy a short hike before breaking camp to begin your descent of the reserve.
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely walk to another glacial lake few have visited, Lago Yagan. When you head back to camp, tents will be packed up and ready to go and you'll begin hiking down the Trail of Chile until arriving at the gravel road that leads you back to Villa Cerro Castillo.
Embrace the warm atmosphere of the town with dinner there.
