Day 1: El Calafate Airport - El Calafate A transfer will be waiting for you at the El Calafate airport (FTE) and taken directly to the city. The drive is approximately 30 minutes through the Patagonian Pampas. Depending on what time you get into will decide what you do, but most likely you will have a little time to enjoy the small town and grab a bite to eat.
Day 2: El Calafate - Perito Moreno Glacier - El Chalten After a nice breakfast you will board a van heading towards Perito Moreno Lookout. As you arrive at the lookout you will be able to orient yourself in front of the enormous ice wall. During the summer the glacier often calves and if you are lucky you will be able to observe this while at the glacier. You will also take a short cruise in front of the glacier in order to get a closer look. In the afternoon you will return to the city, pack up your things and catch an evening bus for El Chalten. You will arrive in El Chalten before 10pm, but may want to bring something on the bus to eat.
Day 3: El Chalten - Cerro Torre Lookout – El Chalten You will begin walking from your hostel until you reach a path that borders Fitz Roy River. The path leads you along plains, valleys and slightly uneven walkways. You will reach a lookout after approximately three hours and be able to see a spectacular valley and the looming Cerro Torre. As you continue you will hike through a Lenga forest, until you finally reach a moraine and the Torre Lagoon. From here on a clear day you can see the Torre, Grande, and Adela Glaciers at the foot of Cerro Torre. You will spend time here enjoying the view. Later we will return to El Chalten on the same path, have dinner and get some rest in order to be prepared for the next day.
Day 4: El Chalten - Fitz Roy Lookout – El Chalten Today you will have breakfast again in your hostel. Soon after, a van will take you to El Pilar Hotel, where the trailhead begins. The ride is approximately 30 minutes with the view of Rio de Las Vueltas along the way. You will reach the trailhead and begin your hike along Rio Blanco. You will pass through an amazing forest where you might see the Carpintero Woodpecker. After about an hour you will reach a spectacular lookout; you can see Piedras Blancas Lake and Glacier. The view is absolutely breath-taking and you will need to stop for a few pictures before continuing on your way. After another hour you will finally reach camp Poicenot, here the views will begin to change and you will start your climb up the side of a hill and along the moraine that will finally take you to Los Tres Lake. The hike is steep and will take approximately one more hour. You will have lots of time to admire the various peaks and later return to El Chalten walking down another trail that leads directly into the city. It will take approximately four hours to return to the small town for a shower, dinner and a good night ́s rest.
Day 5: El Chalten - Viedma Ice Hike - El Calafate In the morning a van will pick you up and take you towards Viedma Lake, you will enjoy a cruise across the lake until you arrive at the foot of the glacier. You will be given instruction on how to hike on the glacier, and also be given the necessary gear. Your guides will help you to get prepared and you will spend a few hours hiking on top of Glacier Viedma. After the hike, you will return back to the boat, and cross the lake to return to your van and be taken back to El Chalten in time to gather your things and get a quick bite to eat. You will board the 6pm bus and head back to El Calafate to spend the night. You will arrive in El Calafate in time for a late dinner and a good night ́s rest.
Day 6: El Calafate - Puerto Natales - Laguna Sofia Today will be a big day! You will wake and take the morning bus to Puerto Natales. The bus leaves at 8:30 am and you will arrive in Puerto Natales around 1:30 pm. You will have a filling lunch and prepare to leave on a mountain bike Towards Torres del Paine. You will ride in total between the two days 80 kms. You will ride just past the Milodon Cave and to a camping spot where locals like to have BBQs on nice summer
days. The road is gravel, and you will not be carrying your gear. A support vehicle will go with you to make sure you arrive safely at the camp and also move your gear and food for you. The first day you will ride mostly through the Pampas and enjoy the nice Patagonian countryside. If you are to tired this day you can also ride in the support vehicle. We will see how you feel.
Day 7: Laguna Sofia - Lago Porteño Fly fishing day, transfer to Lago Porteño.
Day 8: Lago Porteno - Camping Rio Serrano Today you will finish your ride into Torres del Paine. The views on this section of the road are amazing. You will ride along Lago Toro and enjoy views of Glacier Grey and the Paine Massif. In the evening you will arrive at Camping Rio Serrano and have a shower! You will relax sleep well after a long day cycling.
Day 9: Camping Rio Serrano – Glacier Grey - Camping Chileno Today will be a big day with Glacier Grey. You will wake early and be taken to Hosteria Lago Grey, just in front of the Grey Glacier. The kayak will leave at 9am and you will kayak with the icebergs that have fallen from Grey Glacier! Just after lunch you will take a transfer to the trailhead in Las Torres. In the evening you will hike up Almirante Nieto, a mountain that takes you to an incredible view of Lake Nordenskjold and the Asencio Valley. You will arrive at Camp Chileno a few hours after lunch. This is where you will be spending the night.
Day 10: Camping Chileno - Las Torres - Refugio Cuernos You will wake up before sunrise and start to hike one hour through a dense Lenga forest. After leaving the forest, you will approach a moraine and climb to see the amazing granite peaks known as the Torres. After a bit of time admiring the view you will return back to Chileno to pick up your things and continue hiking towards Cuernos. This refugio is located on the coast of Lake Nordenskjold and the foot of the impressive Cuernos of Paine. Along the way you will border Almirante Nieto and pass by Lake Nordenskjold. You will have a few rivers to cross by hopping across rocks and also catch views of glaciers upon the mountain tops that are hovering over you. Finally you see the Cuernos! They are monstrous peaks, you will spend the night at the foot of them after a breath-taking journey.
Day 11: Refugio Cuernos - Refugio Paine Grande Today you will head into the French Valley. You can hike as far or as little as you like. The hike to the entrance of the valley is an easy two hour hike. You will walk along bordering Lake Nordenskjold and admiring the tremendous Cuernos just in front of you. Finally, you will arrive at Camp Italiano and take a little rest. The walk from here to Britanico is around two and a half hours. You will walk past the French Glacier, and into the valley. As you climb up the views in every direction become absolutely stunning. You can see Lake Nordenskjold, the Cuernos, the French Glacier and in the back of the valley you will see various peaks, some of which are Hoja, Espada, Mascara, Aleta de Tiburon, Forteleza and many others.
Day 12: Paine Grande - El Calafate After a relaxing breakfast you will begin to casually walk back to Las Torres trailhead. The hike is about 5 hours and you will need to be there before 13.30 to catch the transfer that will take you to Laguna Amarga. You can take a short hike if you like towards Lago Sarmiento, but you must wait in Laguna Amarga for your bus back to El Calafate, which will pick you up around 16:30 hrs. You will have a nice long ride back to El Calafate and arrive in your hostel at around 23.00 hrs.
Day 13: El Calafate – El Calafate Airport Today you will depart from El Calafate with a transfer back to the airport and hopefully return to Patagonia to see more of its natural wonders!
