Trip Details

Day 1: Trip starts in Puerto Natales. Located on the shores of the picturesque Last Hope sound we will get a chance to walk along the waterfront before dinner and our trip briefing. Night at the beautiful waterfront Hotel Weskar. Situated a short walk from Puerto Natales, this wooden built hotel has lovely views of Last Hope Sound and the Serrano Glacier in the distance. Rooms are light, airy and comfortable and there is laundry and internet available. Hotel options: The contemporary and newly built Hotel If (www.hotelifpatagonia.com). Dinner included at hotel, excluding wine/drinks.

Day 2: After an early breakfast we will arrive at the pier at 07.45 before boarding a mid-size boat that takes us out across Last Hope Sound towards Mount Balmaceda and the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park. Arriving at Mount Balmaceda we will settle into our tents at the beautifully situated Serrano eco camp and acquaint ourselves with our base camp for the night and the local area. After lunch we will walk to the small wharf at the Serrano Glacier lagoon (about 15 minutes) and board a zodiac out onto the glacial meltwaters towards the glacier. Using crampons and ropes under the guidance of our expert guide we will initiate ourselves with safety procedures and technique before walking out onto the ice. The route takes us across the immensity of the glacier itself with its crevices, slopes and cracks allowing the more experienced amongst us to practice ice-climbing and an auto descend. After about 3 hours we will return to our zodiac to our mountain eco camp. Accommodation is in our tents with dinner prepared in the guides’ cabin. All meals included (with wine at dinner).

Day 3: After breakfast, we will be preparing our clothes and equipment to start our kayaking activities. Our safety briefing and practice will take place in the bay in front of the eco camp so we can learn the techniques and acquaint ourselves with the equipment and navigation through the water. Walking out onto the wharf we will once again enter the lagoon in double and single kayaks to paddle out onto the ice choked waters of the lagoon in this pristine setting. This is a real once in a lifetime experience where we will enjoy incredible views with the site made all the more spectacular by the morning light. After about 3 hours we will return to our eco camp and enjoy a picnic lunch in front of the lagoon. After lunch we will board a zodiac which will take us on an exciting ride up river through Bernardo O’Higgins to the magnificent Torres del Paine National Park. On arrival at our destination at the Serrano River we will disembark our zodiacs and walk to the pretty cabins situated beside these abundant salmon-stocked waters. The views of the Paine Massif are magnificent from here and the cabins offer full facilities including hot showers and a restaurant at the nearby hotel. For early risers, this area offers some of the most spectacular sunrises in all of Patagonia. All meals included (with wine at dinner).

Day 4: Today we will be heading out to Grey Lake where we will be boarding the Grey 2 launch and setting off into another iceberg choked lake towards the walls of the spectacular Grey Glacier, the largest in the area. The short boat trip will give us up close and personal views of this spectacle as well as stunning views of Paine Grande and surrounding mountains. After getting fairly close to the glacier, we will disembark and continue up the shores of Grey Lake on foot to a lookout close to the glacier before continuing south to Lake Pehoe. One of the classic Torres del Paine hikes, this climb up and out of the valley enjoys views of Grey glacier, the Patagonian icecap and innumerable mountains. We continue towards the stunning blue waters of Lake Pehoe to our destination and camp for the night. Organized campsite with hot showers, small shop, bar and restaurant. Night camping. All meals included (in refugio / wine and drinks not included).

Day 5: Today we will head out towards the French Valley walking along the foothills of the Horns of Paine with the tranquil shores of Lake Nordenskjold on our right. A full day’s hike we will enjoy fantastic views of the amphitheatre of granite peaks that make up this enclosed valley as well as the waterscapes below including lakes Pehoe, Skottsberg, Toro and Nordenskjold. Our destination is the lively camp at refugio Cuernos set below the imposing horns of Paine. Night camping with meals taken in the refugio offering full facilities. All meals included (wine /drinks not included).

Day 6: After breakfast we set off once again along the shores of Lake Nordenskjold and for the brave a chance to swim in the frigid waters of this spectacular lake. Another one of the parks classic hikes today we will be just below the towering Horns of Paine all day until crossing the Ascending Valley and arriving at our camp at Las Torres. Full service campsite with hot showers, fire pits and shelter. Nearby hotel for bar services and even a spa. All meals included (with wine at dinner).

Day 7: Today's hiking is our most arduous but worthwhile as we climb to the Towers themselves. A roundtrip hike we will climb up into the Ascending Valley and through beautiful old growth beech forests to a rock moraine just under the towers. A steep climb over the moraine will reward us with one of the most spectacular views in the park and weather permitting we will enjoy our last trail lunch at this amazing vantage point. Return to camp for our last night under canvas enjoying a fireside dinner. All meals included (with wine at dinner).

Day 8: Transfer back to Puerto Natales. Trip ends with a drop off at clients’ hotel or airport. Breakfast only. *Upgrade to refugios and hotels available on request – please check with us for prices.
