Lago Pehoe
Lago Pehoe sits at the centre of Torres del Paine National Park, and from it you have wonderful views of the Paine Grande mountain and the Cuernos (horns) del Paine. Pehoe is a tehuelche word meaning 'hidden' and is pronounced "pay-oh-way".
On its northwestern shore lies Refugio Paine Grande, one of the key paces to spend a night on the W Trek. Watching the sun set on Lago Pehoe from Camping or Refugio Paine Grande is a peaceful and rewarding end to a day of hiking along the Grey Lake or up the French Valley. To the North East is the Salto Grande waterfall, and to the South East the Salto Chico waterfall and a number of accommodation options: Hosteria Pehoe, Camping Pehoe and the Explora Hotel.
Most visitors first catch a glimpse of the lake whilst hiking the W Trek. However, the views from its Western shores are wonderful and the 4 to 5 hour hike (or horseride) up from the National Park's administration centre is a relatively flat and less trodden route.
The lake is large, more than 10km wide, and the ferry across takes approximately an hour, from Paine Grande Lodge to the North East.
