Iguazú Falls - Upper & Lower Circuits
Experience the awe-inspiring Iguazú's waterfalls on this immersive excursion. You’ll walk right up to the San Martín, Bossetti, and Dos Hermanas falls, each nestled in lush vegetation teeming with birds, butterflies, and coatis. To enjoy these views before the crowds arrive and catch wildlife at its most active, you’ll head out early from the lodge to navigate the gentle 3.5 km walkway.
As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park can get busy, but your private guide will suggest the best times to visit to ensure you avoid the crowds. Combine it with the Devil’s Throat for a full-day adventure.
Half day | 4 hours | Difficulty: Easy
Iguazú Falls - Devil's Throat
Enjoy privileged access to the heart of the action via a private train service. You'll spend nearly 30 minutes soaking up the power of the falls, free from the usual crowds. Initially, you stroll along a one-kilometre boardwalk over the upper Iguazú River, surrounded by lush jungle and vibrant wildlife, before reaching the 80-metre drop of the iconic horseshoe-shaped cascade.
Note: This private service requires a minimum three-night stay and is subject to availability.
Half day | 4 hours | Difficulty: Easy
Iguazú Falls - Brazilian Side
The Brazilian side of the park offers a remarkable and complementary perspective, featuring a walkway that provides fantastic panoramic views of the entire waterfall system. You can comfortably explore the 1.5 km path on foot or opt for a more adventurous 12 km bike ride from the park entrance to the walkway. As the Iguazú River naturally divides the two countries, your guide will provide convenient access to both sides, ensuring you see the falls from all angles.
Note: Border crossing and entry requirements set by the Argentine or Brazilian governments may vary with little notice; speak to your Customer Experience Representative for more details.
Half day | 5 hours | Difficulty: Easy/Moderate
Iguazú National Park - Macuco Path
Gain a deeper understanding of the Iguazú National Park as you experience the rainforest beyond the waterfalls on this accessible trail. This path engages all your senses; you are likely to encounter a wide variety of butterflies, hundreds of species of colourful birds, and even mammals like the caí monkey in the treetops.
The 3.5 km trail concludes at the Salto Arrechea waterfall, where you will find a cascade over 20 meters high and a natural pool of clear water. This is an excellent option for those looking to immerse themselves in the jungle's biodiversity without extensive travel.
Half day | 3 hours | Difficulty: Easy
El Ñandú Biking - Iguazú National Park
You will set out on a bike ride across the iconic red dirt roads of a lesser-visited area of the National Park. Starting from a remote entry point, you’ll travel along rugged tracks enveloped by dense jungle, eventually reaching the banks of the Iguazú River. From this unique vantage point behind the Devil’s Throat, you may even be able to spot the towering clouds of mist rising from the falls in the distance.
Note: This excursion is subject to availability and weather conditions; it may be shared with other Awasi guests.

Culture & Heritage
Mbya Guaraní Community
Gain insight into the life, customs, and traditions of the Guaraní people, the original inhabitants and guardians of the Iguazú Falls. Led by experienced Guaraní guides, yo'll learn about their unique worldview, traditional hunting techniques, and deep knowledge of medicinal plants and artisan crafts sourced directly from the jungle.
This cultural immersion offers a rare opportunity to connect with the local heritage of the Misiones Province. Additionally, members of the community occasionally visit the lodge to host basketry and craft workshops.
Half day | Total Time: 2 hours | Difficulty: Easy
Jesuit Missions
Travel across the Misiones Province to explore the well-preserved remains of San Ignacio Miní, Loreto, or Santa Ana. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a profound look at colonial history, where 17th-century Jesuit missionaries lived alongside Guaraní communities in impressive "reductions." Walking among these architectural gems, famously depicted in the film The Mission, provides a unique perspective on the heritage of Northeast Argentina. While it is a long journey from the lodge, the site is essential for anyone interested in history and anthropology.
Full day | 10 hours (incl travel time of 3.5 hours each way) | Difficulty: Easy
Yerba Mate Drying Mill
Learn the secrets behind Argentina’s most iconic cultural staple at a local drying mill. Since Misiones is the heart of mate cultivation, you’ll have the chance to explore the plantations and learn about the traditional drying and production processes that drive the region's economy. More than just a drink, "mate" is a social ritual, and this visit offers a unique insight into how the leaves are transformed from forest shrubs into the tea enjoyed by millions. Your guide will walk you through each stage of the harvest.
Note: Only available during harvest season (March to September).
Half day | 3 hours | Difficulty: Easy
Horacio Quiroga's House
Head to the southern reaches of Misiones to discover the former residence of Horacio Quiroga, one of Latin America’s most acclaimed writers. Surrounded by the dense rainforest that inspired his dark and often bizarre narratives, you can explore the atmosphere that shaped his world-renowned works.
Often compared to Edgar Allan Poe, Quiroga’s stories are deeply rooted in this landscape, weaving in local legends and tales of the wild. Visiting his home offers a fascinating literary perspective on the jungle, perfect for those familiar with "Jungle Tales" or "Stories of Love, Madness and Death," or for anyone looking to understand the haunting allure of the Misiones wilderness.
Full day | 10 hours (incl travel time of 3.5 hours) | Difficulty: Easy
Triple Border Boat Ride
You can take a boat ride to the confluence of the Iguazú and Paraná rivers, the natural triple frontier where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay meet. Geologists believe this unique site is the original starting point of the Iguazú Falls. As you navigate the waters, you will learn about the history of Puerto Iguazú and the historic port that once drove the region's economy through the timber and yerba mate trade.
Note: This activity is subject to weather conditions and local authority approval; last-minute changes may occur. This excursion may also be shared with other Awasi guests.

Swoop says
The culture at Iguazú is a fascinating mix of ancient traditions and colonial history. Visit Guaraní communities to see village life and Shaman spirituality, or head to the Jesuit Missions to see the 17th-century ruins still standing in the jungle. We explored the local obsession with Yerba Mate and visited Horacio Quiroga's house to see where the rainforest inspired his dark stories. The boat ride shows the history of the old port where the timber and mate industries began.

Rainforest & Wildlife
Yacuí Private Reserve - Walk & Kayak
Discover the region’s best-preserved area of Atlantic Rainforest, crossing through the Iguazú National Park via National Road 101 (an experience in its own right). Along this route, you’ll see extremely rare species, including majestic Rosewood trees, Palm Heart trees, and primitive tree ferns.
Once you reach the Awasi Yacuí Reserve, you can take out kayaks to explore the tranquil waters of the Yacuí creek, assist your guide in inspecting camera traps, or simply enjoy a moment of contemplation on the shore. The journey itself is a highlight, and as the surrounding region is home to several plantations, it is the perfect place to learn about the local yerba mate culture.
Full day | 7-8 hours | Difficulty: Moderate
Uruzú Ranger Station
The Uruzú ranger station is one of the primary gateways to the Urugua-í Provincial Park. As the most extensive protected area in the Misiones Province, this park is globally recognised for its excellently preserved jungle and immense biodiversity.
This area is a favourite for local biologists conducting research, and its extensive trails are considered a must for birdwatchers. You'll also visit a local salt lick, which offers the chance (with a little luck) to spot some of the region's larger and more elusive mammals in their natural habitat.
Full day | 7 hours (incl 2 hours travel time) | Difficulty: Moderate
Alto Paraná River & Yasí Waterfall
Explore the Paraná River, the second largest in South America and the natural border between Argentina and Paraguay. Navigating upstream on a small motorboat, you’ll discover hidden creeks and waterfalls while learning about the area’s rich history and complex ecology. For more adventure, choose to explore the calm waters of the Urugua-í creek by kayak.
To round off a memorable experience, you’ll have the chance for a refreshing swim in the waters below the hidden Yasí Waterfall.

Puerto Península State Park
Explore one of the protected areas closest to Puerto Iguazú on an interpretive hike through the Atlantic Rainforest. As you navigate the trails, you will look for evidence of animal tracks and activity, assisting in the check of camera traps strategically placed at high-traffic spots like watering holes and mineral licks. This experience offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how the region’s elusive wildlife is monitored and protected.

Explore a distinct landscape at the southern limit of the province, where the Atlantic Forest transitions into the vast grasslands of Corrientes. From the Teyú Cuaré Park, you'll appreciate stunning views of the Paraná River and its dramatic crags, offering a geography that feels entirely different from the terrain around Puerto Iguazú.
Note: Due to the distance from the lodge, this activity is only advisable as an add-on to the Jesuit Missions excursion.
