What types of fishing can I do in Patagonia?
- Fly fishing – with single or double-handed fly rod for trout or salmon there is a wealth of options for those looking for Patagonia fly fishing trips.
- Spinning – Advisable for Chinook Salmon which are harder to catch on fly
- Shore fishing – Easily wadable waters, either guided or self-guided
- Cataraft – Always guided with floating raft covering plenty of otherwise inaccessible waters
- Boat (or jetboat) – Fast access up rivers to rich fishing areas
- Heli-fishing – An exciting option giving entry to remote and untouched fishing areas
What and when can I fish in Patagonia?
- Brown and Rainbow Trout in most locations across Patagonia – these are resident fish, although local factors affect population sizes throughout the year
- Brook Trout in a few lake locations, such as the Argentine Lake District – present most of the year, but they stay deep during the warmest months (December to February)
- Chinook Salmon at certain times of year – spawning season is February to April
- Sea-run Brown Trout spawn in Tierra del Fuego at the end of April/beginning of May

- Torres del Paine – the Rio Serrano and the lakes between Torres del Paine and its nearest town of Puerto Natales provide spectacular fishing, especially for salmon, in a dramatic landscape
- Aysen – the Rio Baker runs 170km through the region and is host to very varied fishing opportunities. In the lakes, for example Lago Bertrand, you can catch trout, while the emerald green rivers offer salmon catches of up to 13kg
- Northern Patagonia – just a couple of hours across the border in Chile lies the Futaleufu River. Combine fishing with white water rafting in one of the world's great rivers for the sport.
