Operator's Itinerary

Day 1 - Transfer from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales:

After arriving in Punta Arenas, you’ll be picked up by a private transfer to set off across the Patagonian Steppe towards Puerto Natales. The town is the gateway to Torres del Paine, which on a clear day, can be seen in the distance. After getting settled, we’ll meet for a trip briefing.

Day 2 - Transfer to Torres del Paine and Hike to Lake Pehoe:

Early in the morning, we will start out from Puerto Natales, taking a private transfer along an unpaved road heading to Torres Del Paine National Park and the administration area. From here we'll make a 6 hour hike to the shore of Lake Pehoe along Las Carretas trail. On the way, we'll follow the Grey river and have a picnic lunch in this beautiful area.

Length of trip: 5 hour hike

Day 3 - Round trip hike to Glacier Grey:

We will begin early with our hike to the Grey Glacier. Our initial ascent of 200 metres up a winding narrow path leads us to Laguna Negra, a place where we will observe the first glimpses of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field with its many unclimbed mountains. We will advance through forests and rivers, with possible sightings of spectacle and flying steamer ducks, up to the glacier viewpoint. We will have lunch here and, if we are lucky enough, see ice calving from the huge glacier wall. We will then return, following the same path, with views of Cordon Olguin and Paine Grande, to reach the Shore of Pehoe Lake to spend our second night.

Day 4: Round trip hike to the French Valley

We will start our day with a two hour walk, going around the southwest side of Paine Grande, the highest peak in the park. This takes us through native forests of Chilean fire bush and evergreen beech (Nothofagus Bethuloides), up to the hanging bridge over the French river for our first glimpses of the hanging glacier. Then we will ascend (300m) for one hour through a surreal Japanese garden landscape, crossing beech forests, to reach the French Valley viewpoint, gifting us with a magnificent view of both mountains and lakes. We will lunch here, with a good chance of seeing avalanches from the hanging glacier or if not, simply enjoying the view of the west side of the Cuernos (2600m), Espada (2400m) and Fortaleza (2800m) mountains. Our return journey will be the same until we reach the refugio at the shore of lake Pehoe, to spend our last night here.

Day 5 - Hike back to Las Carretas trail - Transfer to Las Torres Area:

Early in the morning, we start our hike back to Las Carretas Trail. From the administration area we take our transfer to Rio Serrano, where we will stay in a cozy mountain hut.

Length of trip: 5 hour hike

Meals: Breakfast, Boxed Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Night in Mountain Hut

Day 6  - Round trip hike to Las Torres lookout point – Transfer back to Puerto Natales:

In the morning, we take our transfer to the Las Torres area. From here, we’ll start our walk through incredible tall-deciduous beech forests, with views of glaciers and waterfalls, and continue ascending through a huge terminal moraine up to a viewpoint (900m) with excellent picture taking opportunities. We will enjoy lunch in front of this breathtaking scenery. We will descend, following the same path down to Estancia Las Torres, located at the mountain's plateau, where we will take a transfer back to Puerto Natales.

Length of trip: 8-10 hour hike, 18 km

Day 7 - Transfer to El Calafate:

In the late morning, you’ll board a bus to Rio Turbio - at the border between Chile and Argentina. After getting your passport stamped, you’ll switch buses and continue your journey to El Calafate. A transfer will be waiting for you here to take you to El Chalten. 

Please note: bus schedules are subject to change due to weather, and may require flexibility in the schedule, which is factored into the itinerary.

Day 8: Trek in El Chalten 

Private guided trek - your destination to be confirmed with your guide in the morning. There are three possible routes, depending on preference and weather conditions; you can choose 2 of the options below:

Day 9 - Trek in El Chalten:

Private guided trek - destination TBC with guide in the morning.

Private transfer from accommodation to bus station - shared bus from El Chaltén to El Calafate. Private transfer from El Calafate bus station to accommodation.

Accommodation: Hotel Kapenke 

Day 10 - Southern Spirit: excursion to Perito Moreno glacier:

If you choose to enjoy the wonders of the glacier from the viewing galleries, you will have several hours to enjoy the walkways with their different perspectives on the glacier. Chances are you'll get to see huge chunks of ice calve of the face of this advancing glacier and crash into the water below.

Optional Extra - In May or August, you can opt to add on an ice-hike on the glacier. Please enquire for more details.

Day 10 - Transfer to Airport

This trip can run as a group trip, with prices starting from $3,060 per person for a complete group. If you are looking to join a group or you are a solo traveller we will help to form likeminded groups of travellers. Please let us know your travel plans.

The trip can also run on a private basis to fit around your plans. Departures may be tailored and can be set up on a date of your choice. Please note that there is a higher price for smaller groups. Please enquire for further details.
