Operator's Itinerary

Day 1:

Enjoy a day getting to know the Cerro Castillo National Reserve on the Southern slopes of Cerro Castillo. You'll begin hiking through beautiful beech forests, ascending the mountain on a well-beaten trail before meandering your way in to an old growth forest that will make you think Lord of the Rings. Just near the tree line, we'll escape the forest and feast on our picnic in an alpine valley between Cerro Palo and Cerro Castillo. If you feel up for it, continue another hour to soak your feet in glacial Lake Yagan.

Approximately 8-9 hours, lunch included. Lodging at La Casona

Day 2:

Get your gaucho on by saddling up on Criollo horses and riding out of town down an old dirt road. You'll ride through old Chilean farm before heading up through the forest with amazing views of the glaciers of Cerro Castillo. Upon reaching the tree line, leave your horses tied up in the forest and continue on foot along a steep but well-trodden path to the overlook of the Cerro Castillo glacial lake. Your breath will be taken away with amazing views of the glaciers and surrounding Rio Ibanez Valley.

Lodging at La Casona

Day 3:

Today you'll head south on the famous Carretera Austral to the small lake-side town of Puerto Rio Tranquilo. We'll drive approximately 3 hours, taking in breath-taking views of the Ibanez valley and the early Patagonian sunlight. Upon reaching Puerto Rio Tranquilo, you'll have a light snack and then gear up for your trip to the Marble Caves. Our kayak instructors are well trained and will instruct you on the proper method to paddle. You can choose double or single kayaks and no experience is necessary. After kayaking, we'll have lunch at a local brewery with excellent burgers and then head back to Cerro Castillo for dinner and your last stay at La Casona.
