Specialist activities in Patagonia
Building a specialist trip
See the highlights of Patagonia, and ask our specialists to build in one day of spectacular wildlife-spotting or adrenaline-fuelled activity. As part of your longer Patagonian itinerary, we'll put you in touch with a specialist guide for a day or two, with all the equipment you'll need to do your chosen activity.
You don't have to go far off the beaten track to do something exceptional - Torres del Paine has some fantastic kayaking and puma tracking, Los Glaciares mountain biking and horse riding, Tierra del Fuego is brilliant for bird watching, and you can fish in beautiful surroundings in the Lake District.
Short specialist activity breaks
For those with more experience, or who want to spend a chunk of their trip off-grid, we can organise 2-3 day trips doing your chosen activity. This could be anything from a multiday kayak trip through fjords, wild camping on remote islands, to a 3-day puma tracking adventure, to a mini bike tour around the stunning Lake District.
Spending a few days doing a specialist activity can make a big difference. Not only will get much deeper into the wilderness surroundings, often completely off-the-beaten-track, you'll have more time to connect with your specialist guides and learn about Patagonia.
Longer trips with a single focus. If you're looking to hone in on a specific activity in Patagonia, there's a few different routes to investigate. First is the epic expedition, a 10-day horse ride into the wilderness, a 7-day kayak in a wildlife hotspot, even a 2-week mountain bike challenge down the Carretera Austral.
The other option is visiting a number of different regions, but keeping your focus in each. Bird watch in Atacama, Los Glaciares and Tierra del Fuego, all in one trip. Fly fish in the lake district, Torres del Paine and Ayen. Tick 4 mountains off your list in a mountaineering focused adventure. Our specialists are experts and building itineraries that span the whole of Patagonia, but keep your true passion at the heart throughout the trip.
Patagonia is an adventurer's paradise, with a myriad of terrains to discover. The pampa is best discovered on horseback, the rivers by floating down them, and the volcanoes by climbing them, so why choose between activities?
Ask us about piecing together a tailored itinerary that links the best adventure activities in each region.
What our customers think
Getting to the summit of Madsen & rock climbing, bouldering and just doing life with our guide - amazing!
Julie & Nic Hawaii November 2016
What a great way to end our trip. The kayaking was challenging enough and rewarding and better than expected.
Steve and Jenny Australia November 2017
Kayaking down the Rio Serrano was the highlight - I truly felt like we were in the wilderness because we didn't see any other people!
Mary South Dakota January 2017
The kayaking in Patagonia was tremendous. Continually beautiful. There is something about being on the water that I just absolutely love.
Anne December 2016
The Whale Watching was incredible, we saw over 40 whales in just 3 days!
Eddie March 2016
Patagonia is still a wild and romantic place, with a rawness to its scenery like nowhere else. We had a wonderful time both on and off the beaten track, trekking and kayaking (paddling moonlit fjords at 2am is a must!) and a bit of biking too.
Chris & Alison January 2016
Kayaking up close to a sea lion colony and walking amongst the burrows of thousands of magellanic penguins were absolute highlights.
Jo McGrouther Australia December 2017
Everything about this ride was fantastic - beyond what we had even hoped it could be. The horses are extremely capable - fit, well-trained, happy, and matched to their riders. Our guide, Franco, was a delight. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area, the flora and fauna, and the horses. He is a true horseman, always keeping the well-being of the horses in mind and knowing each horse in detail.
Betsy Wack United States Of America December 2018
I have a lot of experience with horses but was astonished by the sure-footedness of the criollo horses. They took us over wildly steep, boggy, and rocky terrain without hesitating, and I was never nervous.
Bailey Tennessee February 2017
The people were SO friendly, the scenery was wonderful, Superb. The horses were forward moving, sure footed putting you at ease to enjoy the surroundings.
Jeanette Lesbriel United Kingdom November 2018
Nancy checked off about 80% of the birds on the Chiloe Island/Lake District checklist, thanks to our great guide Rafa
Paul Miller United States Of America February 2019
Barraco Lodge is wonderful! The Heli-fishing added amazing views enroute to fishing in remote areas. Jaime is a expert and professional pilot with a love of this land and the people. The staff is amazing, hardworking, and friendly. We loved fishing for and catching large rainbow trout, and just as we were tiring the guide would say, "time for a break." We walked around the corner and found a fire cooked meal and table set up for us!!
Kenneth Parham United States Of America March 2019
Our trip was amazing. Patagonia offers something different every day: a different landscape, varying weather and various levels of difficulty. Loved every minute.
Urszula USA January 2017
Seeing five pumas in one morning was an absolute highlight as was the walk through Frenchman's valley.
Sylvia Singapore December 2017

My perfect summer's day in the Argentine lake district was a morning of mountain biking through the foothills of the Andes range, followed by an afternoon's relaxing kayak on a local lake and a refreshing swim in the cool water, not forgetting the many rounds of maté shared with new friends!
