Tell us about the Excursions

Our guides were great -- Stephen was our guide for the Los Cuernos hike and he was terrific. Our group had multiple guides for the Towers hike but Valentina was the one who spent the most time with me -- I can't say enough great things about her. I appreciated how there were strategically three guides in order to allow for three paces for our group. I was often the only person in that middle group and Valentina was the guide for that "group." So most of Valentina's time was spent with me one-off and I never felt pressured to go faster than I could. But I also felt like I could push myself since I didn't need to stick with the slower-paced group either. So thank you for having three guides to accommodate multiple paces!

Tell us about Hotel Las Torres

Hotel Las Torres was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I'm not a foodie so take this for what its worth but I thought the food was great. Breakfast had lots of options that I really enjoyed. I know a few people got tired of the bagged lunch sandwiches but I was perfectly fine with them myself ("too much bread" was what I heard -- so they just didn't eat all the bread, problem solved!). Personally, the only thing I could have used with my lunch was a sanitizing wipe for my hands as well as a napkin - but I had those in my daypack anyway so I was fine. I also want to give a shoutout to the hotel and restaurant staff. Our restaurant servers was so nice and the front staff was always friendly and helpful when we had questions and they were also quick to have someone bring me extra towels when I requested them. One thing we noticed was that the staff all seemed new which was sometimes cumbersome since sometimes they had to get back to us on things. Turnover can be a challenge for every employer but I do hope Hotel Las Torres pays their employees well and that is not a reason for the turnover. They were such good people so I hope Hotel Las Torres rewards them with good pay. I also had a massage at the spa and I had a great experience there as well. One thing that would have taken the hotel to the next level would be if it had hot tubs and/or a sauna or steam room - if ever I needed to soothe my sore muscles, it was after our long hikes on this trip! I know the spa had these available at an extra cost but it would have been nice to have them readily available and part of the package. (I know the upkeep of these is not inexpensive so they were not expected - but they would have been a nice touch!).

Tell us about Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine was beautiful and so well-maintained. I was happy to see how clean it was due to how respectful hikers are of nature and the park itself. The trails I experienced were clear and maintained as well (I even saw workers maintaining it during one of my hikes).

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Any of my advice would be specific to my physical preparation for the trip/hikes relative to where they are from a physical fitness standpoint. As a "desk jockey" in corporate America, I wished I had amped up my workouts leading up to the trip even more but I still feel pretty good about how I did. One more thing - we had 4 nights which meant 3 full days for hikes/excursions -- I wish we had maybe one or two more.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

No, I can't say that it has changed my perspective a lot. But it's definitely reinforced my love of all things outdoors.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

No, I think I covered everything in my other responses.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

I was very excited for Patagonia and I felt prepared from a packing standpoint and just wish I had amped up my workouts a little more prior to the trip.
