Day Rides in the Chilean Lake District
Bike and Beer
Ride the back roads, which offer beautiful views of the lake and the volcanoes. Arrive at the first stop of the day, the Chester Beer brewery, which has been producing traditionally brewed beer for 5 years. Continue biking back roads to Llanquihe, bordering the lake with stunning views of the mountains. After the upward parts of the road, a gentle descent leads to Frutillar, with its well-preserved German architecture and the city's cultural movement, linked to classical music and the Teatro del Lago (Lake Theatre). Come to the second craft brewery, The Salzburg brewery, with a beautiful lake view has already had some years of development; their 'extreme' beers are proof of this. Different varieties such as Bock, Stout & Pale delight are refreshing at the end of our journey.
Starting at Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. You will be transferred past Lake Llanquihue to the start of Paso Desolacion Trail. Paso Desolacion is a trail that crosses the Osorno Volcano from the small town of Puerto Clocker located at the shore of Llanquihue Lake, to Petrohue at Todos Los Santos Lake. It is a total 24 Km journey, with cross country descents by volcanic areas and forests. The views, as well as speed and adrenalin we can achieve on this trail are incomparable. We will need all our effort and concentration to reach Petrohue, where the journey ends. After commenting on the trip, we'll have lunch and replenish energy and then return to Puerto Varas in a private vehicle.
This tour is designed for mountain bikers who want to experience an exciting descent from the base of the Villarrica volcano. We leave from Pucon by truck with our bikes in the back and make our way toward the ski center and after driving up to the highest possible point, we begin our descent down paths that take us over incredible volcanic terrain with unparalleled views of Pucon and the Villarrica lake below. Definitely a great way to enjoy the most exciting thing about mountain biking.
The routes in the Lake District are wider tracks than some of the other routes in Patagonia, and are on mostly unpaved roads. So whether you are looking for a gentle day ride or a multi-day adventure, there are plenty of choices!
Day Rides in the Argentinian Lake District
Manso River Valley
Mountain bike along the best single track in the Argentinian Lake District on this day ride near Bariloche. Cross hanging bridges over Rio Manso, ride along the the river's bank and ford streams as you appreciate the clear green-blue water, spectacular waterfalls and plentiful flora of this valley.
Laguna Rosales from San Martin
We leave San Martin de los Andes by vehicle for about 8km up to the beginning of a secondary road where there will be no vehicular traffic.
In this place we start riding our bikes, the first few kilometers along a wide and plain path that will allow us to familiarize ourselves with them. The specialized guides will teach us how to enjoy mountain biking and soon we will be ready to get into trails, slopes, short climbs and crossing streams. This first part has unique landscapes where we can capture the best images of our adventure.
After taking a break for lunch and recovering, we start the second part to Paraje Trompul, located in the Curruhinca Mapuche Community. We continue bordering the Lacar lake on its northern shore; along old logging roads used by the mapuches, who continue living in this lands. Riding through ups and downs, we arrive at a small sandy beach known as La Islita where we can take a break and dive into the lake.
We finish our day, riding back to town.
What our customers think of Mountain Biking in the Patagonian Lake District
Wonderful mountain biking, but we mostly did gravel roads, wooden bridges, and some roads to get to and from our starting points. Loved the Swiss village we road through, and the history about that area. So quiet, and not difficult. Read the full review
