Something Else?

El Chalten: Transfers fine. Guide, Lucas, excellent, very interesting and friendly. Fantastic hike. Hotel fine. El Calafate. Hotel fine. Obviously the weather played havoc with the plans here. Would have been useful to know in advance about the delayed bus as we could have done the glacier that day. Of course us trying to ‘fix’ the problem via you and your local partners , and get to Chile via another method earlier probably didn’t help (sorry) and when we found out others had just accepted the delayed bus and gone to the glacier we felt a little foolish. Lesson learnt. Having been dreading the bus it was actually fine. Torres del Paine. Loved it. Our driver, Felipe Flores, and Guide, Gerardo Valdivia, were excellent. Knowledgable and friendly and worked well together. Really seemed to want us to get the most out of our experience. Changed one of the planned hikes at our request and the new route suggested was one of the highlights of my trip. Thoroughly recommend both of them. The camp was also fun, not sure I would have the same opinion if it had rained though. The food was ok, although maybe not quite enough for big appetites. Maybe snacks available to purchase might be a good idea. Chilean Lake District. Beautiful. Loved all the volcanoes, lakes and forests. Puerto Varas Hotel. Loved this one. Guide, Tomas, good, friendly and a good hike. Visited some hot springs which were lovely. Pucon. Least liked hotel although all the staff were very friendly. Nice town. Car hire good. Good access to the 2 national parks which had a choice of good hikes. Would have been helpful to know to buy the access passes online before visiting. Santiago: Nice hotel . Lovely pool deck and rooftop bar, friendly staff. Birds of Chile lic partner. In both Puerto Varas and Santiago the pick ups had different times on their info to ours. Not a big problem .

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Go! Bother Argentina and Chile feel very European and everyone we meet was very friendly. Learn a little Spanish although Google translate is your friend 😀

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Definitely a trip to do with the mindset that you need to hike to get the most out of it. It’s an Outdoor Adventure and the views and landscape are the stars of the show.
