Tell us about the Biking
The biking excursion had the least information on the itinerary: a cycle on paved roads by the lake with a visit to a local brewery. I’d imagined something leisurely and scenic. Scenic, yes, but leisurely, no. It was a tough 15 mile ride on quiet roads around the headland from Frutillar to Llanquihue. We then drove to the company’s office in Puerto Varas where they’d laid out some delicious snacks, fruit and local beers. Thoroughly enjoyed the morning but I did end up walking some of the hills. I might have said yes to the offer of e-bikes had I known. Ernesto was very patient!
Tell us about the Excursions
Isabel met us at the airport and was our guide every day except on the cycling. She was wonderful, so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the area, including the trees, plants and birds. We learnt so much from her and thoroughly enjoyed her company.
Tell us about Chilean Lakes
We visited in mid-March and missed the busiest tourist season. We met few people on our walks, and the road was quiet on our bike ride. Two recommended restaurants: Casa Valdés and las Buenas Brasas, both good fish restaurants.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
A greater awareness of the inter connectivity of all the life and organisms in a forest.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Chloe was a great ambassador for Swoop and the Lake District. Isabel and our driver, Ercelia, were also both great, as was Ernesto from Saddle Skedaddle. A fantastic team all round.
