Tell us about EcoCamp

Room was amazing as were the meals and the supply of wine during the meals. Picnics were fantastic as were the trekking snacks. The eco camp was the main reason we used swoop for this booking and it over exceeded our expectations. It was incredible!

Tell us about Los Glaciares

We were surprised that the perito M trip was a coach full of people though in hindsight it is high season and did not detract from the experience. Ice walk on glacier was great. Kayaking was wonderful as were the Argentinian bad lands. Trek from Chalen Nicolás… guide was exceptional… so knowledgeable about plants, animals and Argentina in general. Would highly recommend this guide and if…. When …. We go back would seek him out as he was so good.

Tell us about Torres del Paine

The incredible size of Patagonia in general was out of this world. The wind on day one of our w trek was incredible and I don’t think people comprehend what the wind is like in reality. The views… the experience was out of this world.

Tell us about the Trekking

W trek- a mixed group in age but the guides handled it very well. Some days were long with early starts but all perfectly achievable with a good base level of fitness. I wonder whether it would be worth being clearer about the level of fitness required?? We had also misunderstood that there would be porters on the w trek and so were nicely surprised that others were carrying our stuff needed for camp. Camp sites were ok… Refugio Paine Grande was very very busy and not as good as others….food was average.

Something Else?

Firstly we had not realised that we could have flown to Puerto Natales which would have saved a long bus journey and arriving late after the briefing. Pick up from Punta Arenas seemed slightly bizarre…. We were picked up on time 13.50 as per revised instructions and then taken to a restaurant for a 2 hour 3 course lunch. (Very nice) but the American couple who we met there had been told our flight was late so we were having to have lunch and this would mean a late arrival in camp. Our flight was on time. Thus we arrived at the eco camp late…just as sun was setting… and we could have been there significantly earlier. This is such a minor point but someone on the ground should have been transparent about what was occurring rather than giving conflicting stories to those people involved.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

The wind is like nothing we experienced before… be prepared. 3 people were blown off their feet.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Yes we want to go back to Patagonia as the vastness is awe inspiring and puts UK into perspective.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

More detailed advice about flight options would have been good. We misunderstood about kit being carried on w trek… do the instructions need to be clearer or did we simply miss it!

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

Very prepared and excited. There was almost too much info to take in as you were trying to prepare people so well, we thought the webinar was a great idea as were the video calls. Doing everything by what’s app when out there was good… luckily we had decided to buy an extra mobile data package but might have been caught out. Maybe some guidance on that would be good… we bought e sims.
