Tell us about EcoCamp

Extensively luxurious, way more than we even expected. The suite domes are like a mini-hotel, and were lovely for the last nights, and the food at every meal was delectable. The best thing about ecocamp though is the staff- they are phenomenal. They were so welcoming, extremely helpful, and a joy to speak with during our stay.

Tell us about Torres del Paine

This park has views every where you turned your eyes. We really lucked out with the weather, though getting a taste of the fluctuations and the power of the wind, so glad that we had the layers. The hikes were wonderful, and the variety of landscapes were so vivid they seemed unreal. We were lucky enough to see a few avalanches (thankfully across the valley), a puma and a rhea on day 1, and a mass of birds and flowers.

Tell us about the Trekking

Pablo and Alvaro were fantastic guides, teaching us loads about the flora and fauna, while easily navigating our alternate routes. We enjoyed getting to know them during our hikes and chats over dinner. We were signed up for the o-trek, but as it was still closed due to the investigation, cascada set us up to hike the W and several alternate routes. This turned out to be perfect for the group, and we greatly enjoyed seeing parts of the park we wouldn't have otherwise, leaving us with the feeling that we got to experience so much more than we originally had thought. Luckily our group was pretty well matched for fitness and endurance, so this made it all the more enjoyable.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Bring the layers as suggested, and try your gear to make sure it works before you go- you don't want extensive blisters and gear issues interrupting your fun as happened for one person. A good level of fitness is needed, so taking the time in the months before to get in shape for it will make this a very enjoyable trip for you, I don't regret the hours put in as it made it so easy to keep going and look forward to the next days hike.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Just really made me want to keep exploring, and perhaps one day come back and explore different regions of Patagonia. The landscape is beautiful, and the people we met along the way made the trip all the better.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

Extremely excited, a bit trepidatious not knowing if we were going to be able to do the hike with the park closures. I was very glad to find I had prepared enough physically, and the packing lists made sure we brought everything needed.
