Tell us about Explora

The Cordillera Paine room was terrific because of its view. The heat towel rack was used every day for handwashing. The bathroom was awkward because the bathroom door was too large and hit the toilet every time one opened the door. We repeatedly hit our toes and feet on the floor stop for the bathroom door. Luckily it never dislocated my problem toe. Despite repeated reminders to staff about my husband's allergy, housekeeping continued to put chocolates with nuts (Frutos secos) in our room. I ended up giving them to the guides. The spa needs one less indoor jacuzzi and more space for lounges. We loved our excursions, but found the southern overland boring, except that we saw foxes at Lago Grey Glacier hotel.

Tell us about Torres del Paine

Unbelievable vistas and examples of volcanic, tectonic, and glacial landscapes.

Tell us about Buenos Aires

We were there for less than 24 hours, but really enjoyed the Palermo district.

Tell us about Tierra del Fuego

What's not to like about experiencing the clean waters, geologic wonders, and birds and animals of the southern end of South America?

Tell us about Los Glaciares

Traveling with Australis meant that we could enter areas that larger ships with deeper drafts could not. the itinerary also kept us on the move so that we could experience new places every day without unnecessary travel times.

Tell us about Santiago

We loved La Reve boutique hotel. Location was terrific, breakfast good, 24-hr kitchen and honor bar lovely. And the staff was responsive. Unfortunately, I became ill while there, which was just diagnosed as Covid.

Tell us about the Horseriding

First excursion was VERY slow, but then again there were riders who either had never been on a horse before or had experienced a bad ride early in their life. Second excursion, combined with the Quincho at Explora TdP, was lovely. The guide (Antonio) and gauchos were all personable.

Something Else?

Please don't take all of my comments as negative. I was a professional meeting and event planner and am hard wired to look at the details. I always look for how events can be better managed. This trip through Swoop was an amazing opportunity, and we all thank you for helping us to participate in it.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Be well aware that Australis has no elevator and guests must be able to get in and out of zodiacs. (One of our party hurt her knee in Ushuaia and only participated in the penguin excursion on the last day of the trip. Explora offers excursions for people of all levels. (Please offer the boat only of the Lago Gray Glacier portion of the hike for those of us who cannot do the hike.) Had I known that I could take just the boat (weather permitting) to meet my husband and friends, I would have jumped on that in a minute. I had to suggest it to the excursion guide, at which point it was already sold out.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

It reemphasized how much we love traveling and exploring in a comfortable manner.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

All hail Sydney Miller! And Isi!

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

Very very excited. As well prepared as we could be, given the variability of weather.
