What was your most memorable moment?

We had many fantastic and memorable moments but getting to Las Torres was incredible. The weather held up and the view of the towers was amazing over the lake. Absolutely wonderful.

Tell us about the Trekking

Our guide, Jose, was excellent and deserves special praise. He was very knowledgeable and was a great guy to have as part of our team.

Something Else?

Our only glitch was the day kayaking. We capsized the kayak twice and had to abandon due to the severe cold. Whilst it was a great experience especially kayaking to an ice floe, this was more hazardous than I’d have liked due to the extreme cold of the water. We were in dry suits but water inevitably penetrates the suits and it was freezing. We had no alternative but to get to the side of the river and abandon and walk back to the hotel after the second capsizing, which was probably a 30 minute walk. I should add that this was no fault of the kayaking company or instructor who were excellent. I think we were simply unfortunate in hitting 2 separate rocks in the water and capsizing both times. One capsizing was tolerable but after the second one, it was simply not possible to continue. We were fortunate to be relatively close to the hotel. But had we capsized a second time further down the river, this would have been very problematic with hypothermia being a real possibility. Also, if the river had been higher, this could also have been much more dangerous as even with a dry suits, time in the river is very limited in frozen temperatures. As a result, I would not necessarily recommend this to the unwary in winter when temperatures are freezing.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

I would recommend 100%. I absolutely loved it. And I would also have no hesitation in recommending going in winter.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Patagonia was a place I have wanted to go to for many years. This was a special trip with my sons, one of whom was in South America travelling, which prompted the trip in the first place, and the other is at university. The trip delivered in every way possible. And the itinerary was perfect as we tacked on time in Santiago before and after Patagonia.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I think I have said everything in the review. But thank you once again. The team at Swoop were fabulous.
