Tell us about EcoCamp
Absolutely loved the whole concept of EcoCamp. This is my idea of glamping at its finest.
Tell us about Torres del Paine
We needed the guides for the French Valley, but then we were on our own for Base and Cuervas. All 3 were great days.
Tell us about Los Glaciares
It rained on the day were were supposed to go to Fitz Roy, but I was secretly happy to turn back. I was nursing sore feet by this time. The next day was good, but being the slow one, I stopped at a point to rest and told the group to go on. I enjoyed it and my friends got to see everything they wanted to.
Tell us about Tierra del Fuego
I was disappointed to not see penguins, but the sea lions were so close we could smell their breath. That was a nice boat ride.
Tell us about the Excursions
The shuttle that the hotel provided allowed us to go downtown and explore. The hot tube and pool at the hotel in Ushuaia was a relaxing treat.
Tell us about the Trekking
On the day we went to the French Valley, Franciso lead the fast hikers (the majority) and Gerardo provided "sweep" for the 3 slow hikers. One of the slow hikers just couldn't go on. When she found out that the group was retuning to this spot after lunch, she asked if she could stay put. At first the young guide balked, but I told him she would be okay. It would allow her to rest and she was happy on the way back to the boat. All was well.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
I brought my own hiking poles as I wasn't sure if there would be any available. I really needed 2 poles most of the time. Bring medical tape and apply it as soon as "hot spots" on the feet appear. We needed to attend to blisters and bunions. Use sunscreen at least twice a day.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
This was an amazing part of the world. I loved meeting people from Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. We made instant friends. I am concerned about the impact that climate change is having on the environment. I loved everything about EcoCamp. Their philosophy will benefit the world.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Everyone was helpful, friends, and well-informed. They are great ambassadors for Chile and Argentina.
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
I was well-prepared after watching the video of what to bring.
