Tell us about the Excursions
The kayaking was an excellent "break" from all the hiking (although there was some hiking involved.) The guides were excellent. It was a small (only 4 guests) group with great group dynamics. The river was running well and the wind was mostly at our backs. And the hike was very interesting. My only suggestion is that someone from Swoop inquired in advance how tall we were and how much we weighed, to help size the "dry" suits that we would be able to use as the water was going to be cold. As it turns out, we were issued "wet" suits, which are very different. If wet suits are what are used, Swoop needs to be clear. Also, the kayaks are well used. Probably could use replacement soon. Ours had a broken rudder. We had no problems just taking the rudder out of the water, but that is an indication of the state of the kayaks.
Something Else?
The only "logistic" issue was the transfer from El Califate to Patagonia Camp. We were a bit confused when we were picked up by an "adventure" bus, and then were joined by another 20+ people who were going on a one day excursion into Chile, and were returning to El Califate late the same day. The guide knew we were being transferred to just beyond the border where we would be picked up by a van to take just us to Patagonia Camp. But until I was able to confirm that was the case, it was a bit confusing. The Swoop itinerary might make this transfer a bit clearer.
