We used Exito Travel for flight arrangements, and there is some room for improvement, though in the long run they did a good job. On the way to Patagonia via Buenos Aires we were made to understand that if we were willing to wait in the EVE airport, we could fly directly to El Calafate, however, near the last minute we had to wait but had to find transportation on our own to get to the domestic airport anyway. As it turned out, I called their number and they advised me on which government approved shuttle to use to get their and it was no problem. On the way home, we were scheduled for a 14 hour layover in Miami before continuing on to our home in San Francisco. Fortunately, I was able to contact the American Airlines desk and get a much earlier flight. So, the issues were easily resolved, but I would have preferred that Exito follow our flights a little closer to streamline the flights.
Tell us about EcoCamp
EcoCamp was wonderful. Loved the staff, food, accommodations and the guides. The one improvement would be for them to have a small wi/fi hub where guests could stay in contact with their families. Certainly wifi throughout the camp would not be needed or beneficial, but this small hub access would be valuable.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Get plenty of practice for long hikes before going.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
I knew little about South America and was pleasantly surprised how great it was.
