Tell us about Torres del Paine
We did 35 miles of hiking in three days (Base of the Towers, Dagastini and French Valley) and felt we were well prepared for our trip. The views from the Dagastini (Laguna Verde) hike were stunning. It was nice to be there fairly early in the season and not have too many people on the trails.
Tell us about Tierra Patagonia
Simple elegance, great food and stunning views. Service was flawless. The guides were fantastic. Knowledgeable, personable and seem to really enjoy their work. Coming back from a long day of hiking to snack and beverages awaiting us at the van was a very nice treat!
Tell us about The Atacama
Very nicely appointed and great views from the rooms and lounge/restaurant. This is much more of an urban environment than Patagonia.
Tell us about Santiago
Half of Chile's population lives in Santiago. We prefer more rural areas, but there is really only one way to get to the other areas that we wanted to go and that was through Santiago. It was fine for one day for us.
Tell us about Chilean Lakes
The northern gateway to Patagonia. Very pretty area. Will go back for more hiking and fishing in the area.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
We were able to get laundry done in all the places we stayed. Had we known that (and I'm not sure we asked the question) we would have packed considerably less clothing. We wound up tipping more than we thought we would because our guides and service were so good.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
I am a big fan of using people who know the area intimately to help plan a trip to an area that we know nothing about other than we want to go there. Peter and then Marcela were great at helping us choose good experiences and helping us prepare for the trip. Both Tierra Patagonia and Tierra Atacama had more than enough hiking sticks for all the guests (FYI). We did bring our own (we like ours) but could have gotten by without bringing them.
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
We felt very well prepared for the trip and it was a great experience. We did use All Trails to get a sense of the hikes before we got there and the descriptions of the hikes in our itinerary were accurate.
