Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Do some pre trip exercise , wear good shoes/boots, bring layers. We were pretty lucky with the weather, but we did have one day of continuous rain. You may also wish to bring a length of rope/ paracord/amsteel as a clothes line, about 7 or 8 meters, 20-25 feet would be more than plenty, used ours! Learn some Spanish. English was used in the hotels, and by the drivers, and guides, but other times it would have been very helpful to have better Spanish. Between my stumbling Spanish, and my wife’s French and Portuguese we could sort of get by. Trust me, you will be much happier with more comfortable Spanish. However, DO NOT LET THNT STOP YOU, go to Argentina!

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Not really, I expected big cities,Buenos Aires is massive, great scenery, never ever disappointed, and excellent food, and I was rewarded with even better than hoped for experiences. One thing I do hope is that Argentina learns from the mistakes we have made, they do so many things so well, but hopefully they will continue on that path.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

I believe we were well prepared, going by Swoop suggestions and our own wilderness travel experience we had the right clothing and accessories. I always look at what I packed when I return home and it seems like I used everything I brought with the exception of one shirt, which I could have worn.
