What was your most memorable moment?

There were so many! Standing atop Cape Horn thinking of the thousands of lost souls in the waters below, listening to the sounds of the glaciers cracking and groaning and booming, watching the sunset alpenglow on the peaks of Torres del Paine, kayaking against the wind and current in the rain followed by a Pisco Sour on glacier ice chunks, just sitting quietly with my wife alone on a moraine contemplating the sunset on the backside of Fitz Roy 5k from a fantastic dinner and scrumptious Chilean wine, laughing with some of the most informed and friendly guides ever. I could go on and on.

Just a suggestion. It would be nice to have a version of the itinerary that was easily printed on a smaller number of pages for those of us who will travel with a hardcopy as well as a downloaded one. A nice concise summary of just the pertinent details of the day(s). Can't wait to go!!

Tell us about the Horseriding

I'm far from a horse person, but my wife really wanted to ride so I joined her. It was fabulous. The horses are so well trained, our gaucho clearly cared for them and for our comfort, and our guide Vanya was helpful, cheerful and just fun to be with. The post-ride mate was chef's kiss.

Tell us about the Kayaking

Matt and Josefina were on the top of their game. Helpful, informative, great senses of humor and downright enjoyable to be with - especially as it was the two of them and the two of us. The paddle was pretty straightforward (thankfully we had cooperating weather), the first portage was an effort but we managed, and the scenery was beautiful. I think we may have lucked out by not being able to camp at the glacier because I slept like a log in my sleeping bag atop a bed at our backup spot. Phew!

Tell us about the Zodiac

These short trips ashore were awesome. Just be certain to not be overly eager to hike to the top of every hill, especially if you're not actually in shape. (Thought a few folks were going to keel over on the first one.) The guides were great, though I never quite figured out which group I was to join. Somehow ended up with the French speakers a lot. 🤣

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?

Be prepared for tips - you will want to give them and you should count on $10/person per day MINIMUM. Take plenty of US$10 and US$20 bills. We were happily prepared and the guides and service staffs were very appreciative. Drivers and gauchos too. Layers of clothing and good waterproof hiking boots not optional. The wind is real (awesome, but real) so dress to stay cozy regardless. We did the "Grand Tour" on a big loop from Buenas Aires to Cape Horn to Santiago, and much in between. A big push - not too much, but maybe too much for some. Also, we skipped all of the "classic, Instagram hikes" to intentionally avoid crowds and don't feel as if we missed anything at all. The opposite really.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Europe smirrup I'm going back to Argentina and Chile.

How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?

Well prepared and totally jazzed to go - if not a tad anxious. But I always get anxious before trips.
