Tell us about Patagonia Camp
Excellent in terms of rooms, beds, hot tub, food, atmosphere all wonderful. The grilled appetizer thing they do is amazing. The mocktails and bartender excellent. Guides also wonderful. The whole staff very much care about you having an excellent time and live up to that. We enjoyed all the excursions we chose - French Valley, Historica, and Lake Sarmiento (rainy day and wanted half day to rest) . And there were plenty to choose from. They were very accomodating for our group. Two things they could improve. The food is very high standard but sometimes different in a way that didn't appeal. Like loin of hare and grilled octopus. With only three choices for dinner and if you don't like any of them you are stuck. They should allow a very few things like a grilled cheese or hot dog off the snack menu to be served at lunch or dinner. Also they were fixing scrambled eggs improperly. You should not see the whites seperate from the yolks in a scrambled egg. But I mentioned it and they fixed it and make sure it was changed the next day.
Tell us about the Wildlife
We were underwhelmed by the wildlife. Saw penquins on the cruise and some birds. Saw rhea, guanaco, fox, condors, eagles, and more birds in Torres del Paine. Saw only birds in Los Glaciares.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
First work with your Swoop sales person to create just the right trip for you. Second read the Swoop website in detail for what to pack and what to expect. Read all the reviews and comments. We learned so much from this. Then talk with your customer experience coordinator. Ours, Alicia, was fantastic. We were well prepared.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Two things to improve. I would like to see a breakdown of the costs when we were planning. What each hotel costs, what each transfer costs, what each show, guide, etc costs. I want to know what I'm paying for what. Now that might make it so I would not have chosen something that I really enjoyed like the guide to Laguna de Los Tres. You definitely don''t need a guide to hike in El Chalten. But I really enjoying having a guide that day. And I'd still like to know the cost for that. We got advice on tipping but I still found it very stressful. What should you really tip the drive from the interational airport in Buenos Aires, certainly not the same as the driver to the tango show. Also already mentioned tango show tip requested seemed very out of line with the service. We didn't tip what they asked but it felt very stressful. Tipping the guides seemed easier. Road Scholar includes all tips. You can always tip more for extraordinary service. I"d prefer that approach.
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
Very prepared and excited. And the itenerary was excellent and helpful. We made all trip participants read it in detail!
