A wild and beautiful area with amazing scenery and very warm and friendly people.
Tell us about the Excursions
Francisco was absolutely great; very knowledgeable, very patient and extremely accommodating. The hike to Lago Cerro Castillo was definitely challenging, at least for me who came from the northern hemisphere and was not particularly active for a few months. I would still say they were all excellent hikes and would recommend them all.
Tell us about the Road Trip
Francisco was a very good driver as well as a surprisingly good mechanic/fixer. I definitely enjoyed the road trip as well since I really wanted to travel on the Carretera Austral and see it for myself. It is possible that not everyone would enjoy the road trip along a gravel road for hours, but I would still recommend it to those who are a little more adventurous.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
Patagonia is wild and untamed with weather that changes all the time. One needs to be flexible and a little adventurous to be able to truly enjoy it.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Yes, this trip has shown me that it is a good idea to step out of your comfort zone sometimes to experience something new.
How prepared and excited for Patagonia did you feel?
I definitely was not sufficiently prepared physically for the hikes in general - mostly due to being inactive during the northern hemisphere seasons which made me spend less time outdoors. However, I think I was fully prepared in terms of knowledge about the areas to be visited and what to expect.
