Our accomodations in El Chalten were sub standard. OUr guide Franscico was outstanding.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Patagonia?
I would suggest that they spend as much time in chile as possible. Argentina is very unreliable as a coutry. The food is better in Chile.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Unfortunately we missed the last third of our trip and were left with a very bad taste in our mouth. I have only spent 2 weeks in Argentina and Chile and i would have planned our trip completely differently.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
I would recommend that when clients describe to you what they are looking for in a trip you actually listen to them. Our first and most consistent request was that we didn't want a hiking trip and we wanted luxurious accomodations. There was no reason for us to be staying in El Chalten. When you provide transfer services and drivers they should speak the language of the customer. There is no reason to drive for 3 hours in a car from el calafate to el chalten with someone who doesn't speak a word of english. We could rent a car on our own. Because argentina is so unreliable and often cancel flights, we could have had the same trip with a different itinerary. We should have flown to Santiago. then flown to Puerto natales and stayed in the national park. We could have done our hiking there and done a day trip to the glacier at Perito Merino. Then we could have flown to Ushuaia from there, with less chance of flight disruptions flying from Chile instead of Argentina. Your salesperson Augustino did not pay attention to our needs and requests. Also when you insist that people buy travel insurance you should explain to them what the insurance is needed for. It is needed so that if any part of your trip is cancelled you can collect from the company and swoop does not refund anything and doesn't provide any support. We purchased trip insurance to cover the trip if we couldn't go but not for replacement costs. Now we have to collect from our insurance company and have no details of the services we missed and the prices.
