Coyhaique

Coyhaique is a provincial and regional capital, known for its interesting pentagonal design. It is also key access point into Patagonia and onto the Carretera Austral, the magical route that connects northern Chile to its southern wilderness. The airport at Balmaceda is just 55km away, making this the perfect first stop at which to get your bearings once you land. It's a sizeable city for the region, home to 55 000 people, and has all of the necessities you might expect. Positioned on the confluence of the Simpson and Coyhaique Rivers, it is a great place for fly-fishing.
