The most popular time for travellers are the high season months of December and January, when the region is blessed with up to 18 hours of day. This is perfect for making the most of your time there, but also means high rates for hotels, internal flights and other services. In destinations like Torres del Paine, rates at some properties double and they may enforce minimum night stays, especially during the festive period.
The shoulder season months of October and November (Spring), and February and March (Autumn) generally has lower prices, as fewer travellers and emptier hiking trails. , you could say rates double for some properties from low to high season, and many lodges enforce minimum night stays for the festive period. Refugios charge festive date surpluses
We offer the widest variety of ways possible to experience Patagonia, all of which had slightly different starting price points, from group trips with set departures to tailor-made itineraries and luxury tours.
The baseline for the majority of our trips is usually around US$350-400 per person per night. Twin centre or multi-region trips (combining Torres del Paine with Los Glaciares for example) will also increase costs, due to internal flights and transfers.
For cruises around the Chilean Fjords or Tierra del Fuego, prices start from around US$350–570 per person per night, depending on the destination.
Swoop has road-tested the best accommodation in Patagonia to offer your the perfect place to sleep, no matter what your budget.
At the very top end of the range, Patagonia has some of the best luxury lodges in the world, from around US$1000 per person per night. There are hotels from where you can hike, bike or kayak, and eco-lodges and glamping sites that are more focused on sustainability and refugios for hikers. Remote estancias in Torres del Paine and Los Glaciares can connect you with the region's gaucho culture, while for those looking to explore Patagonia's backcountry, there are plenty of ways to get out into the wilderness for wild camping.
The prices of many of our hotel and lodge-based trips are based on two people sharing accommodation. At hotels in Patagonia, solo travellers typically attract a single supplement that’s around 150% of the price of a person sharing a room.
On other trips, such those that involve camping or staying in refugios, there is the option of sharing with another traveller in the accommodation. We also have group tours where solo travellers can share with another traveller of the same sex in the hotel portion of that trip, to avoid paying the single supplement for a private room.
There are as many ways to experience Patagonia as there are days in a year, but what you do on your trip will affect its price.
Our group departures tend to include everything under one price, including accommodation, guides, transport and meals. With tailor-made trips, all the different elements are priced up individually, whether that’s a day hike from El Chaltén or a kayaking excursion to the Marble Caves. We can also add extra services in the gateway cities of Buenos Aires and Santiago, such as foodie tours and tango shows.
At all-inclusive lodges, daily excursions such as guided hikes are part of the package, for you to pick and choose your activity each day.
Chile and Argentina are relatively expensive countries to travel in, and Patagonia's remoteness means that tourism operating costs are even higher. If you've hiked the Inca Trail in Peru or Nepal's Everest Base Camp, you should prepare for prices more in line with Europe than these destinations.
